WSET 1

Unusually austere on the opening for this highly consistent wine, but things builds slowly but surely, expanding through the mid palate to show chalk, crayon, cassis and cocoa bean, grilled herbs. 48% of overall production in the Pichon Comtesse Reserve, 3.7 pH. IPT 65, 50% new oak for ageing, 15% press wine.

WSET 2

Fully ripe fruits, smoky and creamy character with charred raspberry and cassis, violet-edged, pencil lead, bitter chocolate, cocoa dust. An impressive wine, tannins close in a little tightly on the finish, with dried rosemary and black pepper spicy translating the heat of the vintage. 31hl/h yield, 3.65ph.

Majors on savoury blue fruits, with some austere tannins at first, but there is clear precision and vivid fruit character, and a juicy mouthwatering finish. The team under Nicolas Glumineau added just a touch more new oak during ageing (70%) but only for the first three months, then back to 50%. 15hl/h yield after the Merlot in particular was impacted by mildew. First year of organic conversion, 40% of overall production.

Sorte kirsebær, syrlige mørke plommer, blåbær,  anis, lær, noe tobakk.

Ganske juicy, fyldig 2. vin. Kirsebærene følger på smak, noe lakris. Fyldig og juicy tanniner. 

Expert

A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Pichon Comtesse Reserve is deep garnet-purple in color. It features notes of redcurrant jelly and blackberry preserves with suggestions of bay leaves, pencil lead, and tapenade. The medium-bodied palate is coated with bright, savory-sparked black and red fruit, framed by grainy tannins, finishing with good length.

Mørk og konsentrert vin med tydelig solbær, plomme og litt sedertre på nesa. Smaken er fyldig og strukturert, med faste, men ganske modne tanniner. Litt fat og krydder i bakgrunnen som gir et klassisk Bordeaux-preg. Føles seriøs og vellaget, og gir et klart inntrykk av Pauillac-stil uten å bli for tung eller streng.

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2012 Reserve de la Comtesse comes barreling out with baked blackcurrant, stewed plums, and bay leaves scents with hints of mossy tree bark and black olives. The medium-bodied palate is slightly dilute, with chewy tannins and an herbal finish.

Fortsatt mye potensialet igjen, men ekstremt god i glasset nå.
