More proof that Talbot is on a roll, revved up and ready to take off. This is a brilliantly juicy but understated Talbot, lovely quality, classically-minded with cassis, blueberry, mint leaf, cocoa bean, espresso and powerful grilled fennel. Great stuff. 60% new oak for ageing, and a generous 54hl/ha yield.

Expert

The 2021 Talbot has a deep garnet-purple color. It features notes of fresh redcurrants and blackberries, followed by hints of dried Provence herbs and black pepper. The medium-bodied palate is lively and straightforward, with a light chewiness to the tannins and a savory lift on the finish.

Ruby red. Exotic nose with spice, cherries, blueberries, cassis, licorice and light toast. Powerful and fresh. Cassis, ripe cherries, licorice and spice. Nice balance and polished tannins. Long.

A little shoutout to Château Talbot for this special bottle. They made it to celebrate the 100 year ownership of the Cordier familiy. And a beautiful bottle it is! The tasting note was written on day two. The first day it was rather tight and dark. Day two was better and more in balance. Next bottle in 15 years?

Yet more proof of how good 2017 is right now. Cloves, liquorice root, juicy blueberry and salivating, savoury cassis-strewn Cabernet Sauvignon, edge of bitter fennel and smoked almond on the finish, this is great stuff. No need to wait although you absolutely can hold on and get a softer, more finessed experience in a couple of years. 50% new oak for ageing, Jean-Pierre Marty director.

Medium garnet colored with a touch of brick, the 2013 Talbot has a nose of sauteed herbs, cedar chest, and scorched earth, giving way to a core of stewed red and black plums and dried mulberries. The medium-bodied palate is soft and subtly flavored with savory-laced red berry notions and a racy backbone, finishing with an herbal lift.

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2012 Talbot has a perfumed nose of kirsch, dried roses, and cinnamon stick over a core of blackcurrant preserves and cloves. The medium-bodied palate delivers bright, lively red and black fruits with a grainy texture and lifted finish.

Darker fruit than the Talbot 2009, and more closed in its architecture, showing that both of these wines really encapsulate the vintage character. Solid, muscular, impressive, well textured, with a slab of bitter chocolate cutting through the fruits on the finish.

Melted tannins, juicy black fruits, finessed appellation signature, this opens to grilled blackberry and bilberries, brambed and pureed, with slate tannins and a wave of campfire smoke. Well balanced acidity also, this is charming, joyful and ready to drink but with plenty of life ahead. One to look out for.

Balanced, if severe, even at 16 years old, with plenty of Left Bank slate and grilled earth character. The fruits remain fully in play, majoring on blackberry, bilberry and cassis fruits, with the begining of tertiary tobacco, cigar box, mint leaf. Charming, if resolutely old school Talbot in character, less precision than in more recent years. Christian Hostein cellar master, 50% new oak for ageing.

Another great wine from Château Talbot. The 05 vintage is great with a very good quality of fruit and tannins. Some of them are still a bit hard, so open in advance and check if they need a bit of decanting. This one needed three hours to open up.

Ruby red with a garnet rim. Cassis, blueberries, leather and minerals. Fresh acidity. Toast, blueberries, leather, cassis and minerals. Nice structure with supple tannins. Very long.

This captures so much about St Julien, with its balance, tobacco leaf, smoked earth, melted tannins, blond tobacco, blackberries and mint. It's delicious, from a time when the yields would have been high, and in a year that struggled to reach full maturity, and yet has a balanced charm that shows why this appellation delivers drinkability even when it misses concentration. The smoke is far more evident when you come back to it after a few hours of tasting other wines, suggest not giving it too long in carafe before drinking. Dyp dyp rød. Velter dufter ut av glasset. Første anslaget er solbær, tobakk, lær og eik. Rikelig med tanniner alderen til tross. Synes kanskje ikke smaken var så lang, men etter å latt den hvile litt i glasset kom den sterkt ved andre runde. Begynte å lengte etter egnet matfølge. Litt tøft å sitte og nippe til vin som dette. Park hotel Vossavangen. Kunne nok blitt der noen uker.

Delicious, yet more proof of how this corner of Bordeaux excelled in 1996, and the drinking window is still going strong. Grilled earth, tobacco leaf, crushed mint, dried roses, liqourice, brambled autumnal fruit, fine tannins with a trace of dryness, but full of pleasure. Lukt av paprika, hint av krydder. Smak av grønn paprika, bjørnebær, søt lær. Godt innbakte tanniner, lang. Kjøpt på Blomquist

Ruby red with brick to orange rim. Leather, tobacco, cigar, figs and dates. Fresh. Mature dark berries, figs, licorice, leather and minerals. Delicate and balanced. Nice integrated tannins. Long. 

The 1986 vintage was rather hard at first, but the last few years most of them have come around nicely. This one is superb now!

På nesa er den godt utviklet hvor det hovedsaklig er tertiæraromaer. Den blå frukten (solbær, bjørnebær og blåbærsaus) er pakket inn i kanel, nellik, sopp, lær, vanilje og jordlige toner. 

På smak stemmer den godt med aromaene. Frukten er tilstede, men er på vei nedover. Det er også på smak jordlige toner, sopp, lær og mocca. Ettersmaken sitter lenge. Meget godt avslepne tanniner og en fortsatt en fin tilstedeværende syre.
