Dyp purpur med noe brunskjær. Dufter av mørke bær, lakris og noe animalsk. På smak bjørnebær, tydelig blåbær, blyantspiss og noe krydder. Etter å ha stått en stund kom fruktigheten tydeligere frem. Markant fruktighet selv etter så mange år på flaske. Lav på tanniner og syre. Bløt og fin, men litt kort og ikke superfyldig. Alt i alt en fin opplevelse.

Fresh acidities, redcurrant, raspberry leaf and cherry pit as it opens and softens through the palate, touch of grilled oak and liqourice to add in some Pomerol character. Frederic Stévenin, owner of Ch St Pey and Ch Lussac.

Inside Bordeaux

Grilled cedar on the opening, this has appellation typicity in its bright berry fruits and hints of chocolate. Tannins are chalky, lacks a little generosity through the mid palate as acidities are on the fresher side.

The 2022 Vieux Maillet is deep garnet-purple in color. The nose is subdued, with vague notions of prunes and fruitcake plus wafts of fried herbs and tobacco leaf. The medium to full-bodied palate is chewy and rugged with a firm finish and not a lot of fruit expression.

The 2021 Vieux Maillet is deep garnet-purple in color. A little tarry and reduced to start, it opens out to notes of juicy black plums and fresh blackberries followed by hints of dried herbs and crushed rocks. The medium-bodied palate has a lightly chewy texture and soft-spoken savory flavors, finishing earthy.

The 2020 Vieux Maillet is deep garnet-purple in color. Notes of black cherries, warm plums, and stewed cherries jump from the glass, with underlying hints of forest floor, truffles, and scorched earth. The medium to full-bodied palate is juicy and soft, with a lively line and earthy finish.

Gentle toasted oak on the nose, nothing aggressive, melting into rich liquorice, cassis, black cherry and bilberry flavours. This is very Pomerol, seductive yet unfussy, lots to sink into and will be ready to drink within a few years. Olivier Chenard is estate director at this 8.6ha estate, with 2019 the first vintage with Bruno Lecoste as consultant. Among the changes Lacoste has brought is an earlier harvest than under Michel Rolland - bringing things forward by around one week, and changing the winemaking process to concentrate on early pump overs and then hands off. 50% new oak, 46hl/h yield.
