High juice factor but equally high acidity that runs alongside the raspberry and redcurrant fruits. There is an energy and a sense of focus and precision from the cumin and white pepper spice, but the finish is abrupt.  Vineyard located in St Christophe de Bardes.

Inside Bordeaux

Intense, heavily spiced with bright berry fruits, this vineyard has several different exposures, north and south facing, both clay limestone slopes, giving plenty of scope for blending as vintages require. Helfrich family owners (also owners of Grands Chais de France, is the biggest producer of wine in Europe).

The 2022 Cantin has a deep garnet-purple color. It is a touch reduced and broody to start, the tar and rubbery notes open out to a core of stewed plums, black cherry preserves, and fruitcake, with a waft of Indian spices. Full-bodied, the palate has a firm, chewy texture, with dried fruit flavors and a stewed tea finish.

A touch austere in the character of the vintage, but this is a good quality wine with plenty of depth to the black fruits, and enjoyable black chocloate, cocoa bean and liqourice, not overpowering but adding depths to the black and red fruit. Consultant Julien Viaud. Harvest October 4 to 22, 50hl/h yield, 50% new oak for ageing. One to look out for. Special cuvée La Chapelle a little tighter right now, I would go for the main estate wine.

The 2020 Cantin is deep garnet-purple in color. Initial notes of licorice, tar, and fruitcake give way to fragrant notions of incense, rose oil, and blackberry pie. The full-bodied palate is coated with dried berries and anise flavors, supported by firm, chewy tannins, finishing a tad rugged.
