A little subdued on the opening, there are tannins here that close in, and fairly high acidities, a little abrupt overall - but once again there is fruit alongside. Harvest 2 to 8 October. 30% new oak. 

Inside Bordeaux

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 La Croix Lartigue storms out with broody notes of damp soil, fried herbs, and charcoal leading to a core of plum preserves and raspberry leaves. The medium-bodied palate has approachable tannins and restrained savory flavors, finishing with an herbal lift. The blend is 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot.

The 2022 La Croix Lartigue, 65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Merlot, is deep garnet-purple in color. It needs a swirl or two to unlock notes of plum preserves, wild blueberries, and iris bulb, leading to touches of garrigue and charcoal. The medium to full-bodied palate is filled with spicy black and blue fruits, supported by plush tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing fragrant.

Bright berry fruit, smoked earth, unfussy with muscular tannins. Edges of tar and smoke. Enjoyable.

Fragrant raspberry leaf and peony notes, slowly opening up to show brambled autumnal fruits and waves of campfire smoke. An attractive, balanced wine from an estate with dominant Cabernet Franc (many old vines) on limestone and gravel soils in Belvès de Castillon. Stéphane Derenoncourt consults.
