Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 La Grave needs a little coaxing to tempt out notes of black raspberries, Morello cherries, and underbrush plus hints of tree bark and black truffle. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers ripe, rounded tannins and plenty of expressive fruit, finishing on an earthy note. The blend is 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 La Grave features open-knit scents of kirsch, mulberries, and juicy black plums, leading to touches of spice cake and cedar. The full-bodied palate is chock full of ripe black fruits, framed by lightly chewy tannins, finishing with impressive length. The blend this year is 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc.

Tannic heft and clear structure, a little austere but goes long on attractive violet and peony flowers that lift the palate and add complexity to the raspberry and black cherry fruits. Harvest september 24 to October 4, 8ha. Gravel over fine clay.

Inside Bordeaux

The 2020 La Grave from Pomerol is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc and has a deep garnet-purple color. It is a little broody to begin, opening out to notes of dried Provence herbs and fertile loam, over a core of black raspberries, blackberry pie, and spiced plums. The full-bodied palate delivers an impressive quantity of black fruits, with savory accents and a slight chewiness to the texture, together with a refreshing finish.

Creamy black fruits, this is delicious and extremely easy to recommend. Skilfully put together, cocoa beans and espresso with tigher pepper, lemongrass and mandarin peel notes. Very Pomerol, very moreish. Harvest September 19 to October 3, from gravel and clay soils. 45% new oak. An upscore from En Primeur.

A blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 La Grave is deep garnet-purple in color. It bursts with notes of black raspberries, Morello cherries, and garrigue, plus nuances of pencil shavings, charcoal, and black olives. The full-bodied palate delivers bags of savory-laced black and red fruit layers with grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing earthy.
