Picking for the 2023 Blanc de Lynch-Bages started in late August, and it had been bottled the week before tasting. It pops from the glass with vibrant notes of white peaches, fresh pears, and lemon curd followed by hints of lime blossom, wet pebbles, and wild thyme. The light to medium-bodied palate is zippy and refreshing, with loads of citrus and chalky layers and an invigorating finish. The blend is 81% Sauvignon Blanc, 11% Semillon, and 8% Muscadelle.

Well structured, a little closed at this point, with a slate minerality evident in its texture. This manages to offer grip and lift, with mint leaf, coconut and subtle toasted hazlenut notes well balanced by juicy white nectarine and pear fruits. Good quality and stands out in the vintage. 7ha of white vines at Lynch Bages, planted largely in 1990 on gravelly soils in Saint Saveur, a commune close to Pauillac in the Médoc appellation. Fermented and aged in barrel, Nicolas Labenne winemaker.

Duft av stikkelsbær, modne gule epler, lyse ananas- toner, smør, urter, timian, herbalsk, og krydder.

Smak av syrlige grønne epler og gult sitronskall. Høy syre med tre- tannin, høy konsentrasjon. Lang finish. 

Muligens mindre eikebruk og mindre andel Sauvignon Blanc for min del. Et latterlig lagringsobjekt, som kan ligge lengde.

Expert

The warmth of the vintage gives this Blanc de Lynch Bages a gourmet feel, with good weight through the mid palate, plenty of structure, and a clear emphasis on apricot, nectarine, pineapple, white peach and honeysuckle. I noted during the En Primeur tastings that it's a slightly atypical vintage, and the impression is confirmed now in bottle - plenty of pesonality, less lift than in the 2019 or 2021 vintages. 3.35pH, 50% new oak, 40hl/h yield.

Passion fruit, lime blossom and scraping citrus, with a touch of gunsmoke and slate to keep things tight and focused. 50% new oak, harvest September 5 to 11. The grapes are handled in a variety of ways at Lynch Bages, using a mix of pressing both with and without stems, followed by fermentation in barrel for two thirds of the crop and in vat for the rest, then ageing on the lees for 6 months. A great moment to drink, but no rush and this is a white wine with enough structure to age.
