A Nicolas Thienpont wine that has a successful mix of Sauvignon Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Touches of gooseberry, elderflower and nectarine, great tension through the palate, fresh acidites give a mouthwatering finish and this has precision and juice. Easy to recommend and great value.

Inside Bordeaux

Plenty of grip and character, touch of lime zest and lemongrass, kiwi even, good quality if austere, with richer preserved citrus as it opens. 500l oak casks, Thienpont family, clay-limestone slopes. Harvested before the rain, Loire Sauvignon clones. Harvest September 16 to 24, only keeping the first pass through the vines. Tasted twice.

The 2023 Puygueraud Blanc, already bottled, comes skipping out of the glass with bright, cheery notes of lemon drops, lime blossom, and green apples leading to suggestions of allspice and baking bread. The medium-bodied palate is crisp and refreshing, with compelling purity and a chalky finish. The blend is 79% Sauvignon Blanc and 21% Sauvignon Gris.

A blend of 86% Sauvignon Blanc and 14% Sauvignon Gris, the 2022 Puygueraud Blanc scoots out with ready-to-go, vibrant notions of Granny Smith apples, grapefruit oil, and lime blossoms, plus hints of wet slate and sea spray. The medium-bodied palate has fantastic tension supporting the intense citrus flavors, finishing long and steely. The soil here in the Francs Côtes de Bordeaux is limestone-clay on clay and harvest began early, on the 24th of August, to preserve that freshness this cooler soil wants to give.

Strong reduction, clearing to show ripe, rich white peaches and pear, with sage and slate texture. Well structured, aged in large oak casks. Great stuff.

2020 Puygueraud Blanc is a blend of 73% Sauvignon Blanc and 27% Sauvignon Gris. It needs a little swirling to reveal notes of lemon juice, lime leaves, and chalk dust, leading to wafts of coriander seed and wet pebbles. Medium-bodied, the palate is lively and zesty with a pure, citrusy finish.
