Always a consistently impressive wine, carefully constructed, has ambition and clear tannic architecture, and so potential for ageing, highly spiced with ripe red fruits - feels more of a hot vintage than on the Left Bank. 30% new barrels. Harvest September 13 to 26. Interesting political background in France this year, with them wanting to leave the Cotes to form their own appellation. Thienpont family estate and family home. Tasted twice. 23h/h yield.

Inside Bordeaux

A blend of 86% Sauvignon Blanc and 14% Sauvignon Gris, the 2022 Puygueraud Blanc scoots out with ready-to-go, vibrant notions of Granny Smith apples, grapefruit oil, and lime blossoms, plus hints of wet slate and sea spray. The medium-bodied palate has fantastic tension supporting the intense citrus flavors, finishing long and steely. The soil here in the Francs Côtes de Bordeaux is limestone-clay on clay and harvest began early, on the 24th of August, to preserve that freshness this cooler soil wants to give.

The 2021 Puygueraud Blanc pops from the glass with notes of yellow apples and Bosc pears, plus suggestions of coriander seed and white pepper. The medium-bodied palate has lovely poise and elegant crafting, with a soft-spoken finish.

2020 Puygueraud Blanc is a blend of 73% Sauvignon Blanc and 27% Sauvignon Gris. It needs a little swirling to reveal notes of lemon juice, lime leaves, and chalk dust, leading to wafts of coriander seed and wet pebbles. Medium-bodied, the palate is lively and zesty with a pure, citrusy finish.

A Nicolas Thienpont wine that has a successful mix of Sauvignon Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. Touches of gooseberry, elderflower and nectarine, great tension through the palate, fresh acidites give a mouthwatering finish and this has precision and juice. Easy to recommend and great value.
