Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Peymouton rocks up with ready-to-go scents of black cherries, juicy plums, and kirsch with underlying wafts of mint tea and cinnamon toast. The medium-bodied palate is soft and lively, with subtle red and black berry flavors and a lifted finish. The blend is 89% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Beautifullly poised plummy colour, clear glass-staining and vibrant edging. Rich texture visually but this provides an attractive contrast on the palate, with some excellent levels of freshness and even austerity at this stage. Touch of damson puree, crab apple even, pretty high acidity on the close of play. This is a 31ha property, harvest September 19 to October 5. Good value.

Inside Bordeaux

Struggles to really build up momentum through the palate, although there is cheerful red fruit and nothing bitter or over extracted. 31ha, harvest October 4 to October 18.

A blend of 79% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 Peymouton is deep garnet-purple in color. It features notes of Morello cherries, black raspberries, and underbrush, followed by hints of bay leaves and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied the palate is soft and juicy with a good amount of red berry flavor and a savory finish.

Unfussy and easy to drink, this is the St Emilion Grand Cru from Châtau Laroque, owned by the Beaumartin family. Plenty of raspberry and strawberry notes, less polished than many St Emilions you can find in the vintage, but charming because of that, with sappy tannins, smoked earth and liquorice notes. Harvest October 1 to 14, from clay over limestone soils.
