Dark ruby/purple colour. The nose is fresh and forward with fine wood, vanilla, blackberry and cassis notes. The palate finely balanced with good volume, powdery tannin, rich dark fruit, cassis, blackberry and a long, fresh, mineral finish, finely tuned and elegant with good potential.

Deep garnet-purple in color. Scents of baked red plums and strawberry preserves with forest floor and wet pebbles undertones and a waft of dried herbs. The light to medium-bodied palate is chewy and lively with an herb-laced finish.

Plum colour, attractive glass staining suggesting a healthy ph. This is a wine that often has some austerity when young, with its slice of Petit Verdot in the blend, and you feel that again here, but it has a delicious fragrant backbone, and good lift through the palate. Expect tight cloves, plenty of closed down architecture, and cocoa bean, espresso on the finish. Estate signature, and great energy.

Inside Bordeaux

The 2022 Yon-Figeac is deep garnet-purple in color. It is a touch closed and shy to begin, delivering reductive notes of rubber and tar over a core of baked plums and stewed black berries, plus wafts of dried herbs and chargrill. The full-boded palate is jam-packed with black fruit preserves, framed by rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and earthy.

Sweet raspberry and black cherry fruit on the opening beats, this is appealing in its aromatics, cheerful and enticing with lovely dark spice notes, but struggles to maintain this through the palate, acidities not in full balance with some bitter edges to the finish. This is a wine that can start off austere and then fill out even in warmer vintages, and may resolve itself over ageing - one to watch in bottle. Owned by Alain Chateau, 24ha.

Ripe but fresh fruit, gentle extraction, great richness of tannin, almost a hint of smokiness, stony with graphite, good nuance between red and dark fruit from the three varieties. Very dense and concentrated with immense but ripe tannin adding a lot of freshness, delicate fruit and good oak intake followed by an impressively long and powerful finish.

The touch of Petit Verdot makes itself felt in the dark colour and the blast of spice. Expect a little austerity at this point, so suggest waiting a good few years to let things soften and balance. It's full of silky, enjoyable, well-worn tannins, but there is a spike on the finish and a kick of spice. A yield of 42hl/ha. Pure, floral and lifted nose, raspberry, plum, cassis with fine wood, cedar, tobacco, and discreet oak. Very fresh, dense and well-constructed palate, youthful but ripe tannin, finely tuned oak with gentle butterscotch, digest red and dark fruit with a nuanced spiciness and a long lingering finish.

Discreet aromas of wild berries, mineral, fine oak and tobacco. The palate is dense with plenty of extract, fine tannic backbone contributes to a very good length, fresh and vibrant fruit, classically built for long ageing, very promising.

Dark ruby/purple nuance. The nose is elegant and ripe with a mineral notion, wild berries, violet, spices and elegant wood. The palate is finely built with grainy tannin, dark chocolate notes, layers of wild berries, good freshness and a very long, layered finish. Very good and potent.

Very dark and inky colour. Fine oak on the nose, roasted coffee, blackcurrant, dark plum, spices and tobacco. The palate is really dense and full but with soft extraction and excellent quality of tannin, persistent and lingering with attractive, juicy dark plum, blackcurrant, leather, tobacco and fine spices; very long finish; superb potential.

Rich and ripe brambled fruits, on the precipice of tertiary aromatics and flavours, this is totally ready to drink, showing waves of campfire, leather, old books, liquorice, mint leaf and sea spray, with a soft uplift on the finish. The tannins are a little smudged but fully integrated, and there is plenty to enjoy here. 40% new oak for ageing.
