Deep garnet-purple in color. Storms out with broody notes of tar and fried herbs, giving way to a core of red and black currants and boysenberries, plus a waft of black olives. The light to medium-bodied palate offers chewy tannins and bright acidity to frame the black and red berry flavors, finishing earthy.

The 2023 Batailley is deep garnet-purple in color. It needs some swirling to coax out notes of blackcurrant jelly, plum preserves, and raspberry leaves followed by hints of rosebud tea, fertile loam, iron ore, and tree bark. The medium-bodied palate is tight-knit and refreshing, with firm fine-grained tannins and beautiful tension supporting the energetic black berry flavors, finishing long and savory. The blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot.

You can't ignore the construction of the tannins here, but there is a plenty of juice in between and this is a gorgeous Batailley. On brand Pauillac, as it so often is, delivering slate, liquorice, energy, cassis, blackberry, orange peel, cardamom, black pepper, graphite, grip. Classic balance also, you don't feel you are in an extreme vintage here. Two thirds of the production is in the first wine of Batailley in this vintage. 55% new oak. A label in honour of Queen Elizabeth II also...

Inside Bordeaux

The 2020 Batailley is composed of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it reveals flashy scents of creme de cassis, redcurrant preserves, and wild blueberries, giving way to touches of violets, dark chocolate, camphor, and unsmoked cigars with a hint of cedar. The medium-bodied palate is chock full of bright, expressive cassis and red berry flavors, supported by fine-grained tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing with a mineral lift.

Inky in colour, this is wine that you want to share with Pauillac lovers. So much cassis, bilberry, espresso, cocoa bean, fennel and aniseed. Big tannins but approachable, with slate, crayon and smoked earth adding contrast and texture to the frame. This is really one to look out for. Tasted twice.

Mørk, rik og påkostet duft. Ingen påtagelig sminke (aka brente fat), bare mørk, varm frukt og forsiktig vanilje. Vokser i munnen med myke tanniner. Bred finish. Litt eukalyptus. Henger lenge. Kan godt drikkes nå, men jeg har tro på at den har mer å gi nedover i gaten

The 2014 Batailley is medium to deep garnet-brick in color. Scents of leather, dried herbs, and damp soil lead to a core of stewed plums and dried figs. The medium-bodied palate is chewy and slightly dried out, with a rugged finish.

The 2013 Batailley is medium garnet colored with a touch of brick. It rolls out with open-knit notes of kirsch, dried plums, and fruitcake, plus suggestions of unsmoked cigars, tree bark, and graphite. The medium-bodied palate has an appealing core of youthful black fruit with a firm, chewy texture and an herbal lift on the finish.

Dobbelmag - en bra vin for all del, men virker som 12 er blant de mindre fruktigere årgangene. Kunne nesten sagt snikkork, for det er hovedsakelig mangelen på frukt som trekker ned. Ellers har den fin syre, struktur og power. Kanskje ikke en perfekt match til sushi, men det kommer i andre rekke.

Oppleves som ganske ung. Taniner som sparker litt, noe ubalanse, noe eike preget. Tett mørk frukt. Kan se for meg at dette blir riktig så flott om noen år. 

We are in full on classic Pauillac territory here, sculpted and balanced juicy blackcurrant and bilberry fruits, great lift on the finish, one of best value wines of the tasting, sleek tannins, studded with freshly cut herbs and charcoal. For a long time the 2009 was the best of the two vintages at Batailley, but the 2010 is now taking the lead. 55% new oak for ageing, Philippe Casteja owner.

Love this wine, I drink it regularly at home, and it always performs excellently in blind tastings, delivering so much of what we love about Pauillac. Ruby red colour, still vibrant, full of silky black fruits, pencil lead and mint leaf, revs up through the mid palate with layers of bilberry, cassis, slate and crushed rocks. You will get longer-lasting Pauillac 2009s, but this is thoroughly enjoyable and built to share. 55% new oak for ageing, Philippe Casteja owner.

Old school charm, well balanced, pencil lead, crayon, graphite, cassis, plum, mint leaf, signature Batailley, bounding energy, in the way that Gloria was finessed classic St Julien, this plays the same role in Pauillac. Sums up why 2005 works - so drinkable today and yet will keep on delivering for 30 years. Love this. Doesn't shout out its presence, but it just exudes confidence and restrained power. 50% new oak, Denis Dubourdieu consultant, Philippe Castéja owner.

Tobakk frukt lang, moden bordeaux. En drøm i munnen.
Litt stram i begynnelsen men etter 10-15 minutter i glasset (1 time i dekanter) åpned den seg helt perfekt. Korken var litt skadet så hadde lave forhåpninger!
