Deep garnet-purple colored. Opens with notes of fresh raspberries and wild strawberries plus hints of lavender, spearmint, and pencil lead. The light to medium-bodied palate is lively with good intensity, featuring lightly chewy tannins and a red berry-laced finish.

This has fragrant aromatics, soft waves of violet and peony, opening up to slate, crayon, blackberry, with tannins that stretches out through the palate. Not the most intense but I love the balance and the Left Bank slate character. Unfussy, charming, feels like it will age nicely but no need to wait too long. 50% new oak for ageing.

Inside Bordeaux

A blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2022 Branas Grand Poujeaux is deep garnet-purple in color. It comes skipping out of the glass with bright, exuberant scents of kirsch, blackberry preserves, and underbrush, plus wafts of violets and Ceylon tea. The full-bodied palate is completely coated with rich black fruit and red berry sparks, framed by ripe grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long with a mineral lift. This is impressive!

Cherry red in colour, raspberry and bilberry fruit have a crunchy vibrancy to them, smoked oak notes, well balanced although the bitterness on the finish is still evident after ageing, and this should be drunk over next decade to make the most of the fruit.

Grilled cedar and vanilla bean with polished tannins and sappy hints of vanilla bean and crushed mint leaf. This has a clear gourmet edge, with blackberry and cassis fruits given balance by bitter cardarmon pods and black pepper. Enjoyable, young, concentrated, closed still but with huge potential to age, delivering on its En Primeur promise. 60% new oak.

Medium to deep garnet in color, the 2014 Branas Grand Poujeaux features appealing notes of dried raspberries and cranberries followed by an undercurrent of tobacco, mint tea, and fallen leaves. The medium-bodied palate is bright and breezy, with mature, satisfying red berry and earth flavors, finishing on a minty note.
