Attractively smoky but measured aromatics, well handed with juicy black cherry and raspberry fruits, good stuff from owner Benoit Trocard, this is a wine that will be ready to drink pretty much on arrival, and yet delivers density through the mid palate, and textured tannic frame. 3.5 pH. 30% new oak. 32.2 hl/ha. Harvest: 23 September to 5 October.

Inside Bordeaux

The 2023 Clos de La Vieille Eglise is deep garnet-purple in color. Classic scents of plums, pencil shavings, and juicy blackberries spill from the glass, with a waft of bay leaf. The medium-bodied palate is soft and refreshing, with delicate savory flavors and a lively finish.

Delivers unfussy enjoyment in bottle, and it's one to look out for on the vintage. Carefully balanced, aromatics of lilac and peony flowers, gentle bilberry and black cherry fruits. 60% new oak, Benoit Trocard owner, one point upscore.

An excellent Pomerol, owned by Jean-Louis and Benoit Trocard, lightly grilled oak, sweet ripe damson and black cherry fruits with liqourice and creamy smoked caramel. You are squarely in Pomerol here, hard to go wrong, with an upward kick of acdity on the finish. It will open up further with another few years in bottle but honestly if you like a good plump piece of Pomerol fruit, you're not going to be unhappy opening this soon.

Lovely coffee bean and grilled blackberry gives a gourmet attack, but the high alcohols have accentuated the oak a little over ageing, giving a touch of bitterness on the finish. Give it a few years to integrate further. 100% new oak, this is a lovely 1.5ha estate from Jean-Louis and Benoit Trocard.

Plum colour, undergrowth and soft liqourice, heading towards evolved, given a kick of freshness by rosemary and black pepper spice. Expands through the palate, very much in its drinking window, no need to wait. Received unexeptional scores at the time, but there is clear Pomerol charm here. Owners Jean-Louis and Benoit Trocard, 100% new oak.
