Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Le Crock needs a little swirling to coax out notes of black raspberries, fresh plums, and redcurrants leading to hints of damp soil and tar. The medium-bodied palate delivers soft tannins and a lively line to frame the delicate black and red berry flavors, finishing on a mineral note. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc,  with pH 3.64 and TPI 80.

The 2022 Le Crock is composed of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot with a yield of 20.7 hl/ha. Deep garnet-purple in color, it rolls out with vibrant notes of creme de cassis, plum preserves, and spice cake with wafts of Chinese five spice and potpourri. The full-bodied palate is packed with black fruit preserves, framed by plush tannins and just enough freshness, finishing on an exotic spice note. pH 3.84.

A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot, Le Crock 2021 is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It features fragrant scents of kirsch and black raspberries, with hints of lavender and forest floor, plus a touch of Provence herbs. Light to medium-bodied, the palate has a taut structure of lightly chewy tannins and a lively line defining the red berry and earthy flavors, finishing with an herbal lift.

Le Crock 2020 is deep garnet-purple in color. It jumps from the glass with gregarious notions of baked black plums, boysenberry preserves, and cassis, plus suggestions of spice cake, clove oil, and dark chocolate, with a touch of menthol. The medium-bodied palate bursts with bright, expressive black fruit flavors, supported by soft tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and spicy.

Delivers confident St Estèphe tannins and swagger together with a gourmet richness that is pretty irresistible. Great quality, with liquorice, turmeric, cinnamon spice, along with damson and black berry fruits, wrapped up in cocoa bean and smoked oak pleasure. One to look out for, from the same owners as Léoville Poyferré in St Julien.

Inside Bordeaux

Le Crock 2018 is deep garnet purple in color. It offers lifted notes of cassis and redcurrants, with a cedary undercurrent, plus hints of charcoal and wild sage. Medium to full-bodied, it is firm and chewy with a decent core of fruit and a firm, herbal finish.

Medium ruby in colour, with firm consistency from rim to core, still young and vibrant. As it opens; the black cherry, damson and cherry pit flvours give way to softer waves of tobacco anc crushed rocks. Still full of tannic power but the light is beginning to seep through. 30% new oak,owned by the Cuvelier family of Léoville Poyferré.

Owned by the Cuvelier family of Léoville Poyferré since 1903, today a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel, and certainly a name to look out for. This is excellent, absolutely bursting with St Estèphe character, a little subdued still but confident, with shape to its black fruits and tannic structure, and clear potential that is just starting to be realised at 8 years old. Old school, more so than today, but that is also a reflection of the character of the vintage.
