The 2023 Grand-Puy Ducasse has a deep garnet-purple color. The nose opens with cedar and pencil lead notes, before giving way to a core of fresh blackberries, Bing cherries, and raspberries, plus an undercurrent of dried Provence herbs. The medium-bodied palate delivers a good amount of savory-laced black berry flavors, with lightly chewy tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing on a woody note.

Inky colour, this is impressively structured right from the start, has a ton of dark chocolate, cassis, mint leaf, slate, has structure and character with a fresh cushion of acidity under the fruit. One of the more impressive vintages of this wine, worth looking out for, and should be good value. Hubert de Boüard consultant.

The 2021 Grand-Puy Ducasse is deep garnet-purple in color. It pops from the glass with evocative notes of cassis and black raspberries, followed by hints of crushed rocks, cedar, and clove oil. The medium-bodied palate is lightly chewy and lively, with some dried berry notes and a slightly rugged finish.

The 2020 Grand-Puy Ducasse is deep garnet-purple in color. It opens with notes of crushed rocks, tar, and black pepper, over a core of warm cassis, blackberry preserves, and raspberry leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate is taut, muscular, and earthy, with a firm backbone of grainy tannins and great length.

Powerful liquorice, cocoa bean, espresso and campfire smoke on the opening beats of the wine, silky tannins, well handled blackberry and cassis fruits. Bitter aniseed on the close of play, this has great momentum and lift, and is a successful Grand Puy Ducasse, a big step up from the 2nd wine. 40% new oak.

The 2018 Grand-Puy Ducasse has a deep garnet-purple color. It leaps from the glass with redcurrants, blackberry pie, and clove oil, plus wafts of blackcurrants, pencil shavings, and wild sage. Medium-bodied, the palate is little austere, with chewy tannins and an herbal finish.

En dyp rød og herlig rødvin med preg av eik, skogsbær, urter og tobakk på nesen. Runde og behagelige tanniner og strukturert finish. Klassisk Pauillac!

Amatør

Medium to deep garnet in color, the 2012 Grand-Puy Ducasse is a little mute to begin, with blackcurrant cordial, blackberry pie, and tar notes with hints of underbrush, truffles, and crushed rocks. The medium-bodied palate is firm and chewy, with loads of muscular black fruits and a spicy kick to the finish.

Medium intensity ruby, tobacco and redcurrant, this is fully ripe fruit, heading towards fig, tight architecture showing leather and undergrowth. Ready to drink, lacking some of the clarity of expression that is typical in the vintage.

Ruby red, raspberry leaf aromatics and oyster shell salinity that kicks in on the opening beats, with brambled fruits and finely-structured tannins. Unfussy and ready to drink, but in terms of being a classified Pauillac in such an exceptional vintage, it is disappointing.
