A little old school, where the tannins are sappy rather than polished, with plenty of blackberry and cassis fruit, slate and cloves, sappy quality, well extracted. Don't be surprised by just how much pleasure you get out of this in five years time. Famille Gromand d’Evry. 38 hl/ha. 25% new oak for ageing.

Inside Bordeaux

Tight tannins, plenty of structure edged with cloves, black pepper, orange peel, damson, black cherry. A good vintage of this wine, with serious architecture, will take its time to come around. Intense and concentrated in colour, feels finessed and balanced with a ton of Cabernet typicity, and a big imprint form the Petit Verdot in its black pepper spice and smoked raspberry leaf. Manges to walk the line between ripe concentration and keeping those tannins tamed and in character. One to look out for.

The 2021 de Lamarque is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. On the nose notes of cassis and red plums give way to hints of cedar and dried herbs. The medium-bodied palate is chewy and innocuous, finishing a little rugged.

Rosebud and rose stem aromatics show the delicate side of Cabernet Sauvignon on gravel soils. Plenty of juice through the mid palate, savoury and a little austere right now, but this is a great quality wine with tons of potential. It opens up beautifully to reveal finely-boned tannins, cocoa bean, smoked pepper and concentrated cassis and bilberry fruits. On the border of St Julien, with high proportions of Petit Verdot in the blend, one to look out for after a few more years in bottle. 33% new oak.

The 2018 de Lamarque is deep garnet purple in color. It opens with notes of sauteed herbs, cassis, and preserved plums, with hints of pencil lead and tree bark. Medium-bodied, the palate is firm and chewy, with an herbal lift on the finish.
