Medium to deep garnet-purple in color. Rocks up with notes of minted strawberries and black raspberries, plus hints of cedar chest and wild thyme. The light to medium-bodied palate is slightly dominated by oak with chewy tannins and lean fruit, finishing short.

The 2023 Maucaillou has a deep garnet-purple color. Notes of sauteed herbs and graphite give way to hints of strawberries and cranberries, plus a touch of lavender. The light to medium-bodied palate is herbal and chewy, with little fruit on offer, finishing hard and bitter.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Maucaillou offers up delicate notes of crushed red and black currants, warm plums, and pencil shavings, plus wafts of lavender and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is tight-knit and refreshing, with fine-grained tannins and a mineral-laced finish.

The 2021 Maucaillou is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It has scents of charcoal and dried herbs on the nose, giving way to a core of fresh blackberries and raspberries. The light to medium-bodied palate has a pleasant chewiness and savory flavors, finishing minerally.

Black cherry, bilberry, cinammon and ground coffee, white pepper spice, bright and vivid, this is an excellent Maucaillou. It's serious with firm tannins, in the spirit of the vintage, without the generosity of 2018 or 2019, but the overly-tight concentration has eased up over ageing, and this is an upscore from En Primeur. Tasted twice. 72ha, 70% new oak, 21hl/ha yield.

Inside Bordeaux

Round ripe tannins, fresh acidities, touches of smoked almond, grilled cedar, coffee bean, black cherry fruit with appealing orange peel bitterness on the finish. Enjoyable. Owned by Pascal and Magali Dourthe, 72ha estate. 70% new oak.
