This estate continues its careful reworking, focusing first on the vineyard, ensuring full ripeness of the vines to tease out its St Estèphe personality. Ageing in a mix of one year old barrels and 1,300l oak casks. Final year of organic conversion, certification in 2024, 42hl/h yield. Christophe Congé technical director, Jacky Lorenzetti owner.

Inside Bordeaux

This is the first vintage with the new Jacky Lorenzetti team, headed up by estate director Christophe Congé. A serious selection process has reduced the grapes for an already small 29hl/h yield, and you get a ton of black pepper spice and blackberry fruits, with a pretty impressive sense of tannin integration after such a hot year, all closing to a tight finish of fennel, black pepper, passion fruit and orange peel. Harvest September 12 to 27. The estate's Petit Verdot is entirely used in Les Pelerins this year. Eric Boissenot consultant (so no longer Jean Claude Berrouet).

New owner Jacky Lorenzetti got the keys to Lafon Rochet in January 2022, and technical director Christophe Congé arrived from Lafite Rothschild in March, so this is really a vintage that the Tesserons oversaw, although the blend was done by the new team. This has an attractive lift through the palate at first, and sappy redcurrant fruit, but ends with fairly high acidities and clearly had some issues with the vintage. Jean Claude Berrouet remains as consultant for this vintage, as does Eric Boissenot. Harvest 27 to October 8. 30hl/h yield, after frost and mildew.

Unfussy earthy notes of raspberry and red cherry, touches of dried bay leaf and white pepper. Dry tannins on the finish. The penultimate vintage under Basile Tesseron, just as this wine is reaching the market, ownership has changed from the Tesseron family to Jacky Lorenzetti.
