Attractive sculpted red fruits, with lemongrass and slate reflecting the freshness and minerality of the year, even within the more luscious signature of Pomerol. This has fattened up through the mid palate over ageing, and is attractive, with a lean but finessed tannic frame. A two point upscore, unusual in the vintage, good stuff from owner Edouard Labruyère.

Inside Bordeaux

A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Rouget is deep garnet-purple in color. The nose is dominated by prunes, balsamic and leathery notes, while the medium-bodied palate is tart and bitter.

Deep garnet-purple colored. Gives up scents of stewed red plums, baked strawberries, and fried herbs, plus suggestions of black olives and pepper. The light to medium-bodied palate is soft and refreshing with savory-laced red berry flavors and an herbal lift on the finish.

Inky, juicy, blueberry and blackberry fruits, has Pomerol typicty, slate character, fresh and with depth that makes you engage with what is going on, highly enjoyable. 30% new oak for ageing, 30hl/ha yield.

Muscular, reserved on the aromatics for the first few moments in the glass, with focus on dark cherry fruits, edges of kirsch well balanced by bitter rosemary, mint leaf, graphite and soft cloves. This is attractive, a well constructed wine, give it a few years in bottle. Edouard Labruyère owner, 30% new oak. 20 ha of gravel and clay soils.

The 2020 Rouget is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes bounding from the glass with exuberant notes of plum preserves, chocolate-covered cherries, and mince pies, followed by hints of tilled soil, wild thyme, and tobacco leaf. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating juicy black fruit with spicy accents and a soft texture, finishing minerally.

The 2019 Rouget is made from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it starts with oak and lifted red berry notes, followed by a core of plum pudding and truffles plus a touch of aniseed. The full-bodied palate is firm and chewy, with a lively line and rugged finish.

The 2018 Rouget is deep garnet purple in color. It sings of plums preserves, chocolate-covered cherries, and fruit cake, plus suggestions of camphor and Chinese five spice. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is firm and grainy, with a lively line and bags of exotic spices, finishing long.

The 2014 Rouget is medium to deep garnet-brick in color. Notes of mint tea and kirsch jump from the glass, with hints of iron ore, sandalwood, and cigar box in the background. The medium to full-bodied palate has a good amount of mature muscular fruit, with rugged tannins and a long earthy finish.
