An attractive ruby colour for the Séglan bright fruit on the nose, cool blue and red fruits reflect the cooler year, with emphasis on spice and slate, a successful early to medium term drinking. 3.72ph. Harvest lasted through to October 10, from September 20. 38hl/h, not too impacted by frost here (but yes in 2022), 45% of overall production. Tasted twice.

Inside Bordeaux

Colours are intense, and the wine delivers a lovely sappy quality to the fleshy black fruit. Juicy, moreish, not the ripeness and concentration of recent vintages but a success in the vintage and easy to recommend. 30hl/h yield, 10% new oak, restructuring the vineyard right now so the yield has generally been quite low. 45% of production in this wine, 3.7ph.

Deep ruby, vivid with violet reflections, there is intensity from the first moments, and clear Cabernet character - helped by the fact that even in Ségla there is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend. Sculpted blueberry and cassis fruit, floral overtones of white roses and peonies, sculpted tannins, a little austere and heavy on fragrant turmeric spice. 15% new oak.

Knitted down character to the tannins, this is intense and concentrated, edges of fig and mint, charcoal and chocolate, bright spice complexity rosemary and aniseed, subtle with life and energy. 20% new oak, 45% of production in Ségla.

The 2020 Ségla (the second wine of Rauzan-Ségla) is a blend of 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with classic cassis, pencil lead, and bay leaves scents, followed by wafts of cloves, blackberry preserves, and cedar chest. The medium-bodied palate is coated with juicy black berry flavors laced with baking spices and vanilla pod, framed by ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing on a cedary note.

The tannins have closed down from its En Primeur showing, suggesting there is a real depth to the fruit. Serious and subdued in feel, needs a good 20 minutes in the glass before showing its grilled cedar and liquorice-strewn cassis fruits.

The 2018 Segla from Rauzan-Segla is deep garnet purple in color. It opens with lifted notes of roses and kirsch, giving way to classic scents of cassis, plum preserves, and cedar, with a waft of underbrush. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has soft, elegantly styled fruit and just enough freshness, finishing long and perfumed. 

Duft av røde plommer, lyse bjørnebær, vanilje, og anis.

Expert

Lys blålilla farge. Modnet aromabilde, kirsebær, mørke bær og urter på duft og smak. Ren flott vin med fyldig og rik ettersmak.

Sommelier

Mest primær på nese. Ganske tydelige noter av søt tobakk og en del nellik. Tett, konsentrert og ren frukt. Lange modne tanniner. Meget god lengde og konsentrasjon. 

Selvfølgelig litt early days, men kom seg fint på dag 2.  2014 er en årgang jeg liker godt; (var)fint priset, ganske tidlig tilgjengelig og relativt god lagringskapasitet. På dette nivået fortjener de nok hvertfall 5-6 år til i kjelleren hvis du liker mer kompleksitet og utvikket stil.
