A brilliant quality Siran, full of depth and grip, slate-textured tannins to provide contrast to the ripe black fruits, and help draw out of the nuance in the rich flavours. Has juice and pleasure, and is an enjoyable and quietly confident wine in a year where excess was the easier route. Ageing in 35% new French oak barrels. One to look out for, from the Miaihle family.

Inside Bordeaux

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Siran rolls out with expressive notes of blackcurrant cordial, preserved plums, and stewed black cherries, followed by suggestions of sauteed herbs and forest floor. The medium to full-bodied palate is concentrated and intense, with approachable, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing with an herbal lift.

Amateur

Bright plum and red cherry, pleasurably sappy structure to the tannins, this is full of joy and gives a Margaux lift without having to wait too long. 30% new oak for ageing, 45hl/h yield, impressive quality and a success in the vintage.

An enjoyably sculpted Siran, plenty of depth to the tannins, balanced, juicy and inky, with crushed pure liqourice root, bluebuerry and cassis pastille, rose petals and mint. This is delicious, with tension and a mouthwatering finish, great stuff from owner Edouard Miaihle and winemaker Marjolaine Defrance. 35% new oak for ageing. A buy.

One of the highlights of the 2021 vintage in Margaux. It is lighter framed than you will find Siran in recent years, but it has flavour and grip, and plenty of juice running through the palate. The fresh acidities of the vintage come across as textured slate minerality, and there are bright fruits on offer. Hubert de Bouard consultant. Harvest September 23 to October 9, with a generous 51hl/h yield. 35% new oak.

Duft av søte, sprengmodne plommer, bjørnebær og solbær. Tobakk, blyantkvess, treverk og vanilje. Nydelig aromabilde. I munnen har vi en vin som er «Margaux-myk» til tross for sin relativt unge alder. Fin friskhet, kraftfull uten å være dvask og meget god konsentrasjon for dette prisnivået. Utgang med moden og god tanninstruktur. Lang. Meget imponerende fra Siran i det som fortoner seg som en generelt veldig god årgang i Médoc. Kan fint ligge 10-20 år. Meget godt kjøp! (47M/45CS/7PV/1CF)

WSET 2

The 2018 Siran has a deep garnet purple color. It bursts with crème de cassis, baked blackberries, and black cherries, plus hints of menthol and Chinese five spice. Full-bodied, rich and plush in the mouth, it is chock full of spicy fruit with a long, lifted finish. 

Silky and softly structured with white truffle, blackberry, loganberry, and fine tannins. This lifts gently through the mid palate, unfussy with layers of smoky complexity, and a touch of rose bud, raspberry leaf and smoked earth, suggesting things are skirting full ripeness but skilfully handled and well balanced. A structured vintage where the amount of Cabernet Sauvignon rises back up after 2015. Dark plum in colour, full of depth with the kick of eucalyptus mint freshness on the finish that gives a cushion of acidity and air, and is a regular signature of Siran, particularly with the Cabernet Franc added from this year. Smoked earth also, good quality, still young but ready to begin drinking, less closed down than some other Margaux 2016s at this point. First year with Marjolaine Defrance as cellar master (promoted to technical director as of the 2022 vintage). Harvest September 26 to October 20, 35% new oak for ageing.

High Merlot than usual in this vintage, giving deliciously plump and silky raspbery and loganberry fruit, silky tannins with a shot of crushed mint leaf and spiced pepper to lift things up through the palate. A little short on the finish, this has an unfussy approachability and an emphasis on the floral side of Margaux. Hubert de Bouard consultant since 2014. Harvest September 17 to October 12, 35% new oak.

Medium to deep garnet-brick in color, the 2014 Siran gives up scents of plum preserves and cassis followed by nuances of menthol, leather, and unsmoked cigars. The medium-bodied palate is tight-knit and lightly chewy, with a refreshing line and savory finish.

A little smokier than the 2009, still full of punchy dark fruits, blueberry and black cherry, fennel, grilled cedar, and black pepper, solid through the mid palate. Crushed mint freshness lifts the earthy tannins, this is less polished than some 2010s, a ton of heart, really quite delicious, and ready to drink. Denis Dubourdieu consultant at the time.

Tobacco, spiced blackberry and blackcurrant fruits, laced with incense, liqourice root, and still-present if softened tannis. Things end with a kick acidity, and the Petit Verdot seems to be playing a key role in the character, giving great balance and focus to the generosity of the vintage. Denis Dubourdieu consultant (as he had been before Edouard Miaihle returned, so working with his father William-Alain Miaihle).

A classically balanced Siran, perfect for long lazy evening with friend at this time of year. The structure at this point is fully softened but still intact, with supple tannins, gentle campfire smoke, brambled berry fruits, slate-scraping minerality on the finish that gives grip and emphasises the dark spice of the Petit Verdot. Harvest September 14 to October 5.

Deep ruby. Pronounce intensity with black current, vanilla, game, pepper, pencil shavings and leather. 
Dry with medium acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol, full body and pronounce flavor intensity. Black current, flowers, pepper, vanilla, pencil shavings and leather. Long aftertaste. Outstanding.

WSET 3

Takes a moment to clear the slight brett on the first nose, but then it steals up on you, full of softly spoken strawberry and white truffle notes, with waves of Margaux flowers, tobacco and smoked earth. Absolutely ready to drink, no need to carafe, but no need to rush - it should stay on this plateau for another decade. Exact blend not known. William-Alain Miaihle owner at the time, the 3rd generation of the family in the role.
