Worth looking out for this library release of a mature wine from a warm, dry vintage that was among the most extreme of the 1990s. Delivers plenty of tertiary character, with campfire smoke, leather, baked plum, fig and toasted stone fruits. It would have been made in an extractive style at the time, fermented in stainless steel and concrete, and aged in 100% new French oak. A vintage that took a long time to be fully approachable but at this point has softened beautifully, heading from fruit to spice and smoke. Consultant Jacques Boissenot, Cecilia Torres winemaker.

Inside Bordeaux

Concentrated fennel, cocoa bean, aniseed and dried herbs, this is good quality, with lift and freshness, plenty of cooling mint on the finish, a little austere right now but with ageing potential. Sebastian Labbé winemaker, Andres Lavados director, 19.8ha vineyard.

Fragrant spices and herbs, this feels nuanced and enticing, delivering savoury and intense sandalwood, cloves, cumin and turmeric spices that speak of a dry and hot vintage, coupled with juicy damson and cassis fruit, with plenty of cocoa bean and espresso giving an intense and concentrated finish. Enjoyable, this is a consistently impressive medium-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon that feels distinctive. 3.56ph.

Nuanced dried herbs with savoury blueberry and grilled butterscotch on the opening beats. Really an enjoya- ble wine, juicy, muscular and broad shouldered but with balance. As it unrolls through the mid palate you are gripped by strong coffee grounds and cocoa bean notes, and the whole thing is a gourmet slice of pleasure. Andre Lavados director. First year on the Place de Bordeaux for this exceptional Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, now 30 years in existence, with vineyards at the foot of the Andes.

A classic vintage after the heat and drought of 2012, with rain in the middle of the growing season but none during harvest. Sandalwood, sweet spices, balsamic, cedar, fresher shots of green leaf, and raspberry fruits combine with precise tannins. The oak still plays its part in the overall taste, giving a smoky edge, but the wine is welcoming and warming, full of character, and there is still plenty of ageing potential ahead. 100% new oak. Cecilia Torres still winemaker at this point (she spent 36 years in the role before handing over to Sebastián Labbé).
