The 2020 Simard is composed of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it flies out of the glass with graceful scents of redcurrant jelly, blackberry preserves, and dried roses, giving way to a core of juicy black plums and clove oil. The medium-bodied palate is fine-boned, with satiny tannins and fantastic freshness supporting the elegant fruit, finishing with a red berry lift.

Beautiful plum colour, spiced raspberry and red cherry fruits, edges of fennel and aniseed. 22hl/h yield after the dry summer, harvest September 10 to 24. An impressive wine from the Vauthier family, great for early to medium term drinking, but these sandier soils suffered a little in the vintage conditions. Conversion to organic farming as of this 2020 vintage.

Inside Bordeaux

Fresh acidities, this is juicy, vibrant and enjoyable, with black fruits and highly spiced rosemary and freshly cut herbs. A little tight through the mid palate, but good quality. Lower yields than normal here after mildew. Vauthier family of Ausone are owners here.

Tight in its tannic structure, intense and powerful, surprisingly so for a wine that is often a little more generous when young. Expect plenty of red liqourice and turmeric spice, edges of cloves set against raspberry and black cherry fruit. 50hl/h yield, back to a generous year in terms of yield compared to the extremely low yields of 2021, 32 year old vines on average. Last year of organic farming certifictation (although 20 years of farming organically).

Sweet and ripe nose as well, red fruit, another Burgundian example with dry spices, ginger, full bodied and generous with balanced proportions.

Sommelier

Fresh berry notes, crushed plum and aromatic herbs on the nose. The palate has medium weight, fresh acidity, rather slender texture, fresh pure fruit and medium length.

Rather floral and mineral, crushed red berries on the palate, elegant medium bodied style with a clean fresh finish.

Amatør

Digg deilig vin til fredagens biff. Moden frukt, lett krydret - fin frisket. God pris for en 15 år gammel Bordeaux. 

God og fyldig, dyp farge. Kunne nok vært lagret enda noen år. Smak av lær, mørke bær og noe sopp. Noe fatpreg men integrert og ikke overdøvende.

Fruktig, lett syre og fylde, lett tannin, fruktig og bløt avslutning

flott moden duft, plommer og svisker, bare synd man fortsatt aner noe grønt i underlaget (20% Cab Franc)
