Quality Medoc estate in Jau et Dignac up towards the northerly edge of the Médoc vineyards. This loads up on austere tannins on the opening beats, but maintains momentum through the palate, deepening in a dark fruit feel at it goes, and is restrained but enjoyable.

Inside Bordeaux

Inky colour, blue fruits, cool and savoury, a little leafy but given depths by clove spices, ash and campfire smoke. Tough to achieve full ripneness up in the northern Médoc of Jau Dignac et Loirac commune close to the Estuary, but they are great winemakers at Poitevin, and this has charm, if slimmer and less successful than recent vintages. Harvest 24 September to 8 October, 50hl/h yield.

A reliable smaller estate up in a cooler section of the Médoc, this has pretty high spice, clear cloves and black chocolate, intense black fruits that are definitely over on the riper side but pull back just in time. Flash of heat, but also some gourmet liquorice and patisserie edging. Plenty of punch for this great value estate.

This has retained the balanced character that I found En Primeur, and it's an enjoyable bottle within the vintage, sculpted and understated. You'll not find huge ripeness, but the raspberry and blackberry fruits have character and juice, balancing the earthy notes. Early to medium drinking.
