When you are looking for Bordeaux wines to drink young, it's always worth thinking about the best estates of the Côtes de Bordeaux, and this is a limited cuvée from an interesting estate on high quality gravel slopes overlooking the Garonne river in Cadillac. Powerful blackberry fruits, concentrated and plush, with chocolate, toasted oak and campfire smoke. A wine that I often taste blind among a wide lineup of Cadillacs, and it always stands out.

The 2022 Carat from Reaut has a deep garnet-purple color. It bursts forth with notes of baked black plums, juicy blackberries, and boysenberry preserves, followed by hints of Indian spices and chocolate mint. Full-bodied, rich, and concentrated, it delivers firm, rounded tannins and just enough freshness to support the generous fruit, finishing long and spicy.

Fully charged on the oak, smoke notes and grilled cedar, black cherry and redcurrant fruit, has personality but a bitter finish knocks things off balance.
