This is Orma’s second wine, made from younger vines, also with Bordeaux grapes kissed by the Tuscan underbrush. This majors on blueberry and blackberry fruits, sun sweetened, showing smoked caramel on the finish. Aged in steel tanks for 18 days then six months in 225l barrels. Easy to approach, no need to wait although a quick carafing would help for the next few years.

Inside Bordeaux

Cherry red in colour, this opens to bitter almonds, orange peel, strawberries, sage, fennel, dried herbs. We are very much in an Italian take on the Bordeaux grape varieties, juicy, savoury, good quality. Southwest exposure, 15 year old vines at 7,800h/h plantigs, 10 months ageing in small French oak barrels then 6 months in bottle before release.

The 2021 Passi di Orma is composed of 40% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out with bold notions of warm plums, cassis, and cedar chest, leading to wafts of pencil lead and charcoal. The full-bodied palate is densely laden with crunchy black fruits, framed by firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with a savory lift.
