Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 La Closerie de Fourtet slowly emerges from the glass with fragrant scents of lavender oil and iris bulb leading to a core of fresh plums and raspberry coulis plus a hint of wild sage. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing and light on its feet, with enticing red berry flavors and soft tannins, finishing with a skip in its step. The blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc (some of it from younger vines on the limestone plateau and from the lower section on clay).

A delicious Closerie, with some of the vines from les Grandes Murailles now included. Combines momentum and sappy fruit with mint leaf, slate and campfire smoke, fresh acidities. 15% new oak, 2% amphora.

Inside Bordeaux

Vivid ruby colour, tight tannins, cloves and lemongrass, slim in weight and fruit character, no cold soak but kept fermentation cool to around 26C, 30hl/h yield. Harvest 25 September to 5 October. 20% new oak. 30hl/ha. 3.56pH. The higher clay sections of the vineyard go into this, leaving the limestone expression for the main estate wine. 

Get the limestone grip and direction here, gives it a dense softness to the berry fruits before the lift of the limestone salinity come spiralling through. Bone dry on the finish, this is savoury and shows great finesse, clings on tight, a little subdued right now. Stéphane Derenoncourt and Jean-Claude Berrouet consultants. 15% new oak. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, La Closerie de Fourtet 2021 is deep garnet-purple in color. It skips out with bright, cheery notes of red and black cherries, mulberries, and spice cake, plus touches of garrigue and dried mint. The medium-bodied palate delivers a refreshing backbone and soft tannins to frame the delicate flavors, finishing with a peppery lift.
