Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

A blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2023 Croix de Beausejour is ageing in oak barrels, of which 40% are new. It has a deep garnet-purple color and it gives up notes of juicy blackberries, fresh mulberries, and cranberry preserves, followed by hints of wet slate, wild thyme, and tilled soil. The medium-bodied palate has vivacious red berry flavors, with great tension and soft, approachable tannins, finishing on a savory note.

Good depth and lift, this is grippy with purity of fruit, laced with poppy seeds, gunsmoke, raspberry leaf. Slim in feel, chalky tannins, a reflection of the place. This is the first vintage with the new wine cellar, 28hl/h yield after drastic sorting that took out 15% from the yield at harvest, shorter maceration than usual. Axel Marchal and Julien Viaud consultants. Chaptilisation only on the 2nd wine, but only 0.3%, so a tiny amount to round out the mid palate. 

Inside Bordeaux

Vivid, bright raspberry and blueberry fruit, limestone plateau, concentrated but with air and mouth-scraping pummice stone acidity that reflects the fingerprint of limestone. Josephine Duffau-Lagarosse's second vintage but the first one where she was entirely in control from beginning to end. 40 years old vines average even for the second wine. Harvest September 5-9, then waited a little before brining everything in September 23.
