The 2023 La Dame de Montrose is deep garnet-purple in color. The nose is so floral, with notes of iris and lavender opening out to a core of black raspberries and mulberries plus hints of dusty soil and fallen leaves. The medium-bodied palate is tight-knit and lively, with lightly chewy tannins and a ferrous finish. The blend is 61% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, with pH 3.50.

Silky tannins with grip and intensity, a lovely balance of texture and fresh acidities. Slate and pummice stone grip, this is delicious, with appellation typicity in its powerful black fruits, but measured with a saline kick on the finish. In organic conversion, to be certified 2025.

Inside Bordeaux

This has dark fruit character, leafy but nuanced and sculpted, lovely savoury mouthwatering quality on the finish, At Montrose they did some leaf removal even in early June at fruit set, and left grass throughout the vineyard all the way through the season to increase competition, and did some tidying up at the very beginning of veraison to remove any that were clearly a little behind schedule - so basically just had to be extremely reactive at all times. The yield was 38hl/h after farming entirely organically. Harvest 23 September to 8 October. 20% large oak casks, 15% new oak.

Amateur

A blend of 53% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc, La Dame de Montrose 2021 is deep garnet-purple in color. It strolls out with confident scents of juicy plums, fresh blackberries, and cassis, plus suggestions of fallen leaves, dusty soil, and bay leaves. The light-bodied palate is tense, lively, and mineral-laced, featuring lightly chewy tannins and a long-lifted finish.

Amatør

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 La Dame de Montrose features bright, evocative scents of black raspberries, boysenberries, and fragrant earth, plus nuances of star anise and unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate has a fine-grained texture and just enough acidity to match the vibrant black berry and earthy layers, finishing long with a spicy lift.

The 2018 La Dame de Montrose is deep garnet-purple in color. It charges out with bold notions of baked plums, fruitcake, and chocolate-covered cherries, followed by hints of clove oil, menthol, and sandalwood. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock full of ripe black fruit with loads of exotic spice accents and a velvety texture, finishing with impressive length.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 La Dame de Montrose springs from the glass with fragrant notes of violets and kirsch, giving way to a core of plum preserves, wild blueberries, and spice cake. The medium-bodied palate is elegant and refreshing, with soft-spoken black and red berry layers and a plush textured, fragrant finish. This is still very youthful!

En ungdom, men drikker godt med litt luft. Fruktig, bra konsentrert. Noe tanniner fortsatt, men kan godt drikkes med en god lufterunde i forveien. Totalt nydelig til tørrmodnet cote de boeuf. 

The 2014 La Dame de Montrose is medium to deep garnet in color. Notes of leather sofa, cigar box, and dusty soil lead to a core of black cherry preserves and Christmas cake plus a hint of lavender oil. The medium-bodied palate is lively and ready to drink, offering lightly chewy tannins and a savory finish.

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2012 La Dame de Montrose features expressive notes of juicy black plums, cassis, and black cherry cordial plus suggestions of unsmoked cigars, clove oil, and Indian spices. The medium-bodied palate delivers a good core of spicy black fruits with firm, grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing savory.

You want a good value St Estèphe from a top name, ready to drink this Christmas, this is where to go - one of the best 2nd wines of the vintage. Tasted out of magnum, which made it more primary in its fruit structure than you will find in bottle, but either way this is still full of plump and opulent black cherry and cassis fruits. Still plenty of grip and life ahead, but so much pleasure to be found, and it's at its peak.
