The 2023 Faugeres is deep garnet-purple in color. A little shy to begin, it needs some coaxing to bring out notes of blackberry preserves and plum pudding plus suggestions of mossy tree bark, wild fungi, and fragrant soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is tightly wound, with lightly chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing on a lingering earthy note.

As always a reflection also of a powerful terroir that gives intense concentrated wines, with cocoa bean and black pepper spice, a a good lick of pumice stone, well handled if evident grilled oak.

Inside Bordeaux

Deep garnet-purple colored. Needs a fair bit of coaxing to unlock scents of baked blackberries and kirsch, leading to an undercurrent of tar, green peppercorns, and lavender oil. The medium-bodied palate delivers an impressive intensity of red and black berry flavors with a lively backbone and velvety tannins, finishing long and earthy.

The 2022 Faugeres is composed of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color, it is a touch closed and broody to start, soon revealing glimpses of baked plums, boysenberries, and tar notes with wafts of wild sage and damp soil. The full-bodied palate is lively and firmly textured, with plenty of savory fruit and a chewy finish.

The 2021 Faugeres has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It offers earthy notions of tilled soil, tar, and fallen leaves, giving way to a core of baked plums, anise, and black cherry preserves. The medium-bodied palate has beautiful fine-grained tannins and well-knit freshness supporting the elegant black fruit layers, finishing savory.

The 2020 Faugeres from Saint Emilion has a deep garnet-purple color. It requires some patient swirling to unlock scents of tar, forest floor, wet slate, and garrigue, before opening out to a fragrant core of baked plums and boysenberry preserves, with a waft of Indian spices. The full-bodied palate is ripe, concentrated, and fantastically bright, with unbelievable tension and freshness lifting the concentrated flavors to a very long, velvety finish.

Owned by Silvio and Claudio Denz, a sleek and polished vintage at Faugères, and one that marks the 400th anniversary since André de Faugères founded the property in 1619. This is very much focused on chalky tannins and an austere precise and chiselled feel to the fruit overall. Great quality, built to last, slate scrapes up against the raspberry and damson fruit from beginning to end.

The 2018 Faugeres has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It is open-knit and fruity, with notes of Bing cherries and black raspberries, plus hints of spice cake and menthol. The full-bodied palate is laden with spicy black fruit preserves, with soft acidity and a warm finish.
