The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon, with 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot in the blend, is deep garnet-purple in color. Scents of creme de cassis, mulberries, and juicy plums jump from the glass, giving way to an undercurrent of licorice, lilacs, crushed rocks, and clove oil. The medium-bodied palate shimmers with bright, vivacious black and blue fruits, framed by firm yet super-ripe tannins and amazing tension, finishing long with loads of mineral, baking spice, and floral layers. This is pure electricity!

The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon, tasted as a barrel sample, is deep purple-black in color. Intense scents of plum preserves, blueberry pie, and creme de cassis give way to wafts of dried roses, star anise, and powdered cinnamon. The medium-bodied palate is velvety and lively, with bags of juicy black and blue fruit preserves leading to a long and spicy finish on this impressive wine.

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, with 3% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Cabernet Franc in the blend, is deep garnet-purple in color. It charges out of the glass with notes of blueberry preserves, redcurrant jelly, and boysenberries followed by suggestions of cumin seed, star anise, sandalwood, and fragrant earth. The medium-bodied palate is delicately crafted, with beautiful freshness and silky tannins framing the soft-spoken black fruits and earthy layers, leading to a long and minerally finish on this very pretty wine.

A favourite Napa estate of mine, one that is always a pleasure to taste, and it is exceptional in the 2014 vintage. Inky plum on colour, with savoury blackberry, pencil lead, and cigar box spice on the attack, with still firm but supple tannins. As it opens, sweeter black cherry, kirsch, earth, espresso, cocoa powder and tobacco leaf notes become clearer. Tasted with Alexandre Schmitt, the perfumer-turned-wine-consultant, and I love the extra dimensions that he brings to discussing the evolution of wine in a glass.
