A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge 2023 is aging in 30% new oak. It has a deep garnet-purple color and it rolls out of the glass with ready-to-go scents of crème de cassis, preserved plums, and redcurrant jelly, followed by hints of lavender, mossy tree bark, and fallen leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is expansive and juicy, with loads of savory accents and firm, grainy tannins, finishing long with a minerally lift.

Structured and pretty serious Petit SHL, focusing on blue and black fuits, good structure and tension, showcases the quality of this year's Cabernet Sauvignon, highlighting the nuance and inky character of the grape in 2023, harvest September 8 to October 5.

Inside Bordeaux

Captures the restrained pleasure of the vintage, with tension and just-enough density through the palate to maintain momentum,  juicy blackberry fruits laced with crayon and cocoa bean, and a punch of liquorice. Cabernet dominant in its character, with intensity and black pepper spice, edges of eucalyptus and mint, showing tannic grip and power than makes it a real entry into the1st wine, and very different in character from Les Hauts de Smith in the vintage. Amateur

Supple velvety tannins set the scene here, adding depth and texture to the cassis and bilberry fruits, lovely edge of sage, orange peel and cocoa powder. More serious than Les Hauts de Smith, this has clear ageing capacity. 30% new oak. An upscore from En Primeur.
