Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2021 Tanbark Hill Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon skips out of the glass with bright, cheery scents of black raspberries, redcurrants, and cassis leading to hints of pencil lead, menthol, and mossy tree bark. The medium-bodied palate is soft and refreshing, with bags of energetic red and black berry layers, finishing with a savory lift. "This comes from a certain patch in the vineyard where we're not thrilled about the drainage," said Lisa Togno. "This is about 99% Cabernet Sauvignon, about a third of our production, and less than half the price of our flagship. We came up with this about the same time as Leoville Las Cases started producing Clos du Marquis."
