A big year at La Garde, with new cellar, new label and new consultant in Professor Axel Marchal. Captures a charming freshness and nuanced fruit style that is not easy in the vintage. Slate texture, with ripe berry fruits and a kick of lemongrass, sage and white pepper on the finish, along with smoked sandalwood spice. Reduced percentage of first wine from 60% to 40%.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 La Garde Rouge reveals a nose of plum preserves, baked blackberries, and tar with wafts of aniseed and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is juicy and uncomplicated, with a light chewiness to the tannins and a savory finish.

Slim and savoury with lovely bright fruits, well handled, good quality, this is showcasing the vivid and just-skirting-ripeness character of the vintage, but it works, and is very well handled. Last vintage with Frederic Bonnaffous as Wine Director.

The 2023 La Garde Rouge is deep garnet-purple in color. The nose features notes of stewed red and black plums and juicy raspberries followed by hints of garrigue and bay leaf. The medium-bodied palate is bright and refreshing, with appealing herbal accents and a light chewiness on the finish.

Austere tannins and crab apple flavour alongside the brambled berry and redcurrant fruits. New cellar with the first vintage in 2021, smaller vats that range from 60-100hl, helpful for precision in a year that needed reactivity. Michel Rolland consultant, changing to Axel Marchal as of 2022.

A supremely consistent estate, this is rich with espresso and chocolate bean, savoury redcurrant fruits, serious, firm tannins, structured but can be approached now if you give it a good time in carafe. Dourthe Vignobles.

The 2019 La Garde Rouge is a blend of 52% Merlot and 48% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color, it delivers classic scents of cassis, warm plums, and cedar chest with touches of lavender and iron ore. The medium-bodied palate is elegant and soft-spoken, with lightly chewy tannins and a peppery kick to the finish.

La Garde 2018 has a deep garnet purple color. It opens with tar and rubber scents, giving way to blackberry pie, blackcurrant pastilles, and licorice, with wafts of olives and wild sage. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is slightly thin, with soft tannins and an uncomplicated finish.
