A blend of 95% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2023 Grand Vin Blanc Sec from Sigalas Rabaud needs a little shaking to wake up scents of fresh yellow apples, crunchy pears, and paraffin wax, followed by suggestions of Marcona almonds and crushed stones. The medium-bodied palate is satiny, with good density and loads of tightly wound savory and mineral layers, finishing long and chalky. Impressive!

The 2024 La Semillante from Sigalas Rabaud is youthfully subdued, offering delicate lemongrass and Bosc pear notes with hints of candle wax and coriander seed. The light to medium-bodied palate is tightly wound with mineral and orchard fruit layers, finishing chalky.

The 2022 La Semillante de Sigalas is 100% Semillon. Notes of waxy lemons, yellow apples, and fresh pears jump from the glass, followed by hints of lemongrass and lime leaves. The medium-bodied, elegant palate is refreshing, restrained, and mineral-laced, with great length.

La Semillante de Sigalas 2021 is 100% Sémillon. It has a quiet intensity of ripe apples, paraffin wax, and lime leaves, followed by hints of fresh hay and sea spray. The medium-bodied palate has a gorgeous silky texture and compelling tension supporting the soft-spoken apple and citrus flavors, finishing long and chalky. It is delicious now, yet should age beautifully.

The 2020 La Semillante de Sigalas from Château Sigalas Rabaud in Sauternes is 100% Sémillon.  It springs from the glass with notes of Golden Delicious apples, juicy pears, and allspice, plus suggestions of wet pebbles and lime leaves. The medium-bodied palate is elegantly nuanced, harmonious, and soft-spoken with lots of mineral sparks on the finish. Having recently conducted a vertical of this wine, I suggest putting this away for a good 2-4 years, after which it will blossom with an array of honeyed stone fruit and candied citrus nuances. 

As this is 100% Sémillon, the impact comes less with the aromatics but more with the texture. Hugely appealing stone fruits and white flowers, it has grip, a sense of architecture and a mouthwatering finish.
