Rich ruby colour, with attractive freshly cut herbs on the aromatics, and a balanced, drinkable autumanal fruit character. Chalky tannins that head towards ddrying on the finish, but there is plenty to enjoy here, and good Médoc character. 40% new oak for ageing. Eric Boissenot consultant.

Inside Bordeaux

Soft ruby in colour, noticeably lighter than many in the Médoc, they have been very careful with extraction, and are rewarded with soft berry fruit and a gentle grill of campfire smoke. Unfussy, soft on the finish. 40% new oak for ageing. Harvest 30 September to 8 October. 39hl/ha yield.

Alcohol throws things a little out of balance, putting the emphasis on the oak tannins rather than the fruit, but as it settles through the mid palate, there is an intensity and concentration that has an appeal. 40% new oak, Eric Boissenot consultant. Harvest September 14 to October 5.

The 2021 Castera is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Pale to medium garnet-purple in color, it offers delicate notes of wild strawberries and redcurrants with underlying hints of lilacs and fallen leaves. The medium-bodied palate is bright and breezy, with lightly chewy tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing with a red berry lift.

This has autumnal fruit and undergrowth, sappy juice and easy approachabitlity, with dark spice on the finish. Located in Saint-Germain-d'Esteuil, where the estuary widens out to the north of St-Estephe.
