The 2022 Phelan Segur is made from 56% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, with a yield of 28 hl/ha. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out with rambunctious notes of kirsch, black cherries, boysenberry preserves, and garrigue, followed by suggestions of lilacs, Sichuan pepper, and cinnamon stick. The medium to full-bodied palate is laden with juicy black fruit and red berry sparks, supported by firm, grainy tannins and wonderful freshness, leading to a long and spicy finish on this very pretty wine. pH 3.8, TPI 96.

Some heat on the opening moments, softening to show a velvety texture and vivid blue and red fruits, creamy patisserie notes with fennel and black chocolate on the finish. Great quality. Hail on June 20 meant losing around 30% of the crop, leaving a yield of 28hl/h, and as a result this blend is unusually high in Merlot. Lower alcohols here than 2018, 2019 and 2010 after some blockages. Not sold En Primeur.

Expert

Austere opening, you feel the shape and length of the tannins, well placed and skilfully constructed, with slim Cabernet floral rose petals and peony notes alongside savoury bilberry fruit, touch of liquorice bud and fresh juice on this finish. Finessed, drawn out, expertly constructed. Harvest 30 September to 14 October. 30 hl/ha. 55% new oak. 3.72 pH, Veronique Dausse director. Tasted twice.

The 2023 Phelan Segur is deep garnet-purple in color. Notes of crushed blackcurrants, fresh blackberries, and Morello cherries hop from the glass, giving way to hints of dried Provence herbs, black pepper, and graphite. The medium-bodied palate is lively and refreshing, with a light chewiness to the tannins and a savory finish. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot.

The 2018 Phelan Segur is deep garnet-purple in color. It leaps with scents of fresh blackcurrants, warm plums, and clove oil, plus suggestions of pencil lead, cedar, and wild sage, with a waft of crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has sturdy, grainy tannins and a lively line supporting muscular black fruits, finishing with an herbal lift.

Flott utviklet stil, både på duft og på smak. Hint av sørsut frukt, men ikke intenst. Utrolig behagelig og drikkevennelig nå. 
Overraskende myk og femi. Drikkevindu 2024-2034. 

Mørke rips, rød jordbær, vanilje og noe mineralitet på duft.  

Smak av tette, integrerte røde og mørke bær. En latterlig fin balanse mellom rustikke toner, syre og høy konsentrasjon.

The 2013 Phelan Segur has a medium garnet color, with a touch of brick. It offers meagre notes of dried herbs, pencil lead, and tobacco leaf, with a core of dried cranberries and fig paste. The light to medium-bodied palate is a little thin and green, with chewy tannins and an herbs-laced finish.

En delikat duft av røde og mørke bær, inkludert solbær, bjørnebær, og kirsebær, samt noe krydder og kanel. 

En smak av rustikke rød- modne bær, som kirsebær og solbær, og noe tobakk og lakris. Et snev også av pepper og nellik. Fin syre, med ok konsentrasjon.

Dyp lilla. Mørke bær - blå plommer, bjørnebær. Noe tre, røyk. Dempede tanniner, god syre, men noe kort

Smak; veldig bra balansert, kanskje litt spinkel hva gjelder munnfølelse. Ikke så spennende midtparti, men smeller Litt i avslutning , dog Ikke såå Lang.  Bark blåbær,lakris.

Ripe blackberry fruits, with some powerful tannins and a ton of sandalwood and cedar oak. More exuberant than the sculpted wines that Phelan has been making in recent years, this is fully in the spirit of a ripe 2009, enjoyable and full of personality, a little overworked. 50% new oak for ageing, Michel Rolland consultant.
