Deep plum colour, plush damson and black cherry, with a well textured grain to the tannins that stops things being overly sweet. This is a brilliant Malartic-Lagravière, just absoutely hits the spot between excess and restaint, so much detail and concentration to the fruit, and it manages to pull up just short of too much, delivering a cooler blueberry and mint leaf exit that draws things out through the palate and opens things up for a smoky woodfire soot edge. Total class.

Inside Bordeaux

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Malartic Lagraviere Rouge charges out with profound notes of creme de cassis, chocolate-covered cherries, and plum preserves, followed by suggestions of garrigue and unsmoked cigars. The full-bodied palate is taut with dense, muscular black fruits, supported by firm, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with great length.

A château that has been riding a wave of success in recent years, producing excellent consistency, and here they deliver a concentrated shot of pureed damson fruit, a lovely addition in a vintage where things tend to be on the slim side. Juicy, textured, freshly cut herbs and gunsmoke layered through black fruits. Doesn't entirely escape the challenges of the year and is a little short on the finish but one of the successes of the year. Bonnie family owners here.

The 2023 Malartic Lagraviere has a deep garnet-purple color. It bursts from the glass with bold notions of kirsch, wild blueberries, and cassis, plus nuances of pencil lead, tar, and cardamom. The medium-bodied palate is coated with ripe, expressive black and blue fruits, supported by plush tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing earthy.

Plentiful tanins carefully holding the fruit in place, showing layers of aniseed, feenel, rosemarary and sage. Plenty of black fruits, it is young and subdued with some angular tannins at this point, less voluptuous than in recent vintages but this is an estate that takes an quality approach to everything, and this should age well. Mørk frukt i form av solbær og bjørnebær, vanilje, treverk og røyk på nese. 2018 Pessac-Leognan har stort sett vært «open for business» hele tiden. Velpolert og velbalansert med fyldig frukt og god eikeintegrasjon. Fin friskhet og støvete, behagelige tanniner og god lengde. Flott til tomahawk-stek! Bra årgang som ennå har mye å gå på. I min bok er imidlertid dette et slott som mangler litt særegenhet og identitet. God vin, men det lages det jo kassevis av i Bordeaux!

An excellent quality Pessac white, getting right to business with a juicy kick of citrus and stone fruits, and waves of slate, rosemary and white pepper, and great lift on the finish. 2017 is tasting great in both red and white for many Pessac wines at the moment, and this one from the Bonnie family is one to look out for.

A clear success at this estate, more generous than the 2014, with confident sculpted dark berry fruits, graphite, crayon, gunsmoke and dark berry spice. Really stepping into its role as one of the go-to Pessac classifieds, expertly overseen by the Bonnie family, Michel Rolland consultant. 80% new oak. Tasted separately to the rest of the horizontal.

Deep garnet-brick in color, the 2014 Malartic Lagraviere Rouge features tiring notes of dried figs and prunes with underlying hints of leather, stewed tea, and spice box. The medium-bodied palate delivers quite a lot of mature fruit with firm, chewy tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing spicy.

The 2013 Malartic Lagraviere has a medium garnet color, with a touch of brick. It gives up notes of raspberry leaves, crushed stones, tapenade, and tobacco, with touches of dried Provence herbs and spice box. Medium-bodied, the palate has a lively backbone and delicate fruit, which is slightly over-run by chewy tannins, finishing firm.

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2012 Malartic Lagraviere Rouge features expressive scents of baked plums and stewed cherries with hints of dried herbs, unsmoked cigars, and mossy tree bark. The medium-bodied palate delivers plenty of juicy black fruits with a soft texture and earthy finish.

Malartic delivers in both 2009 and 2010, and this is just totally class Pessac - charcoal, black tea, cinnamon, intense cassis puree, bilberry, cocoa bean, muscular tannins that are still fully in control.

Great poise and character, these were the years when Malartic was taking a step up, and the 2009 has more than stood the test of time. Supple tannins that have a hidden kick, with a punch of dark fruits layered behind. Great stuff, enjoyable, fresh but confident signoff of concentrated blackcurrant puree and cigar box.

Deep garnet in colour, with opening aromatics of tobacco, coffee grounds, cocoa bean, damson and plum. With intensity and concentration, definitely feels that this has more years to go before reaching its peak. Supple silky texture, enjoyable, powerful. Harvest September 15 to October 12. Two years after the arrival of Jean-Jacques and Severine Bonnie to the family estate, purchased by the Bonnie family in 1997.
