Delivers softly-spoken red and black fruits, a little austere but I like the brambled blackberry feel, and soft white pepper spice, has some Pauillac typicity in an early drinking style. Owner Pascale Peyronie, 44 hl/ha yield, harvest 26 September to 8 October, 55% new oak.

Deep garnet-purple in color. Notes of red and black currants and mulberries spring from the glass, followed by hints of underbrush and wild sage. The light to medium-bodied palate is lively and soft-textured with a quiet intensity of red berry flavors and a savory finish.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Fonbadet gives up notes of fresh red and black currants and Morello cherries plus hints of pencil lead, wild sage, and fallen leaves. The medium-bodied palate is elegant and lively, with lightly chewy tannins and a mineral lift on the finish.

The 2022 Fonbadet is deep garnet-purple in color. It comes tumbling out of the glass with ready-to-go notes of warm cassis, blackberry pie, and juicy plums, followed by hints of graphite, dried lavender, and unsmoked cigars. The medium-bodied palate is lively and intense, with a firm structure of grainy tannins supporting the tightly wound black fruits, finishing savory.

The 2021 Fonbadet has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It offers up notes of blackcurrants, fresh raspberries, and mulberries, followed by hints of cedar, pencil lead, and lilacs. The light to medium-bodied palate has beautifully poised red and black fruits, with a fine-grained texture and bags of freshness, finishing with a quiet intensity.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 Chateau Fonbadet leaps with expressive black and red currant notes, followed by wafts of cedar, underbrush, and wild sage. Medium-bodied, soft and juicy in the mouth, it delivers a spicy kick on the long finish.

Big tannins, brambled blackberry fruits, not overly polished and full of charm. This is enjoyable, proper old school Pauillac with backbone and personality. Will age, but to make the most of the punchy black fruits and firm tannins, I suggest drinking over the next decade. Tasted twice. Owned by Pascale Peyronie. Harvest 23 to October 11. 55hl/ha; 40% new oak.
