Medium to deep garnet-purple colored. Features spritely notes of crushed red currants and fresh strawberries, followed by nuances of dried Provence herbs and pencil shavings. The savory, light to medium-bodied palate is light on its feet with racy acidity and soft, well-managed tannins, finishing on a pure red berry note.

Clearly skilful construction of the wines here, with precision and balance. Austerity on the finish, as is classic in Cabernet-dominant wines in 2024, with emphasis on cassis bud and slate, very pretty. 3.55 pH. 45hl/ha yield, 20% new oak. Harvest 23 September to 9 October. Vincent Millet director.

Inside Bordeaux

A serious Marquis with higher Cabernet Sauvignon than usual, ink, spiced plum, damson, orange peel, chocolate, cocoa bean. Slightly exuberant, silky texture, with a flash of heat. 30% new oak for ageing, 3.6ph, 45hl/h yield.

Violet reflections, dense fully ripe berries, tannins just the right side of constricting, with black berry, spiced plums, fresh almonds and smoked earth. 26hl/h yields. No pumping over here, and since 2021 they have been making greater use of fractions of press wine during blending. Hail impact brought yields down. 30% new oak

Starts off with perky blueberry fruits, fine tannins, light in structure, with savoury lemongrass and slate construction. Perky and will be easy to approch within a few years of bottling. High Merlot in the blend which also explains its atypical feel. 36hl/h yield. 30% new oak, 57% of overall production.

Le Marquis de Calon Segur 2020 has a deep garnet-purple color. It opens with notes of cedar, baked plums, and stewed black cherries, followed by hints of spice cake and tapenade. The full-bodied palate is concentrated and laden with spicy black fruits, supported by chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with impressive length.

The 2019 Le Marquis de Calon Segur is composed of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs a little coaxing to unlock notes of red and black currants, fresh blackberries, and tree bark, followed by hints of pencil shavings and lavender. The full-bodied palate has a solid frame of grainy tannins and plenty of freshness to support the bright, breezy fruit, finishing on a mineral note.

Le Marquis de Calon Segur 2018 has a deep garnet-purple color. It charges out of the gate with bold notions of crème de cassis, plum preserves, and Morello cherries, plus touches of pencil lead, black olives, and cumin seed. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegant and restrained with seamless freshness and rounded tannins, finishing savory.
