Medium intensity ruby colour, and lovely aromatics, really comes out in waves, soft, charming, gentle, extremely carefully constructed, this is a lovely wine, sweet berries and woodsmoke, has an effortless feeling. No need to wait too long, hard to argue with. Harvest 18 September to 4 October, 30hl/h yield. 

Inside Bordeaux

Deep garnet-purple colored. Notes of raspberry pie and Morello cherries spill from the glass, giving way to hints of rose bud tea, cinnamon stick, and pencil lead. The medium-bodied palate is juicy and soft-textured with just enough freshness and a spicy lift on the finish.

A blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 64% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, the 2023 Haut-Bailly II has a pH of 3.75. It is deep garnet-purple in color and it leaps from the glass with energetic notes of crushed Bing cherries, juicy raspberries, and strawberry preserves, giving way to hints of cumin seed, Sichuan pepper, mossy tree bark, and black olives. The medium-bodied palate is velvety and juicy, with a great concentration of mid-palate fruit and a spicy finish.

The 2022 Haut-Bailly II, a blend of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, is deep garnet-purple in color. Scents of black cherries, mulberries, and crushed blackcurrants jump from the glass, followed by wafts of fallen leaves, camphor, and crushed rocks. The medium to full-bodied palate is filled with juicy black fruits and earthy accents, supported by plush, rounded tannins and soft acidity, finishing with a peppery kick. 

Amatør

A blend of 54% Merlot and 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 Haut-Bailly II has a deep garnet-purple color. It rolls effortlessly out of the glass with rambunctious notes of crushed blackberries, warm blackcurrants, and juicy plums, plus suggestions of clove oil, unsmoked cigars, and fragrant soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate offers velvety tannins and seamless freshness to match the expressive black fruits, finishing long and spicy.

Sculpted, balanced and easy to love savoury plum and grilled blackberry fruit flavours. This moves carefully through the palate, gently delineated, with delicate tannins, smoked caramel and gunsmoke on the finish. Showing more complexity than it did En Primeur, just as you would hope with a 2nd wine but is not always the case in 2019.

The first vintage where La Parde de Haut-Bailly (in production since 1967) became Haut-Bailly II, and although young, it can be opened now, and will really start to deliver over the next few years. There is such control on display, with the balance and finesse that you expect from the team here, majoring on a ton of cassis, bilberry, liqourice, pencil lead and cigar box. 30% new oak.
