Cloves and white truffle dominate the opening moments of the wine, and this is sappy and slatey with plenty of bright blueberry and red cherry fruits, good depth and texture. A lovely wine, if shorter through the finish than in recent vintages.  Harvest 24 September to 19 October. 3.66 pH. 30% new oak for ageing.

Inside Bordeaux

Deep garnet-purple colored. Trots out of the glass with energetic notes of black and red currants, kirsch, and menthol, plus a waft of garrigue. The light to medium-bodied palate is pure and plush with great tension and an herbal lift on the finish.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Pedesclaux charges out of the gate with exuberant scents of cassis, wild blueberries, and juicy strawberries giving way to nuances of violets, anise, and charcoal. The medium-bodied palate is tightly wound with vibrant black and red berry flavors and impressive tension, textured by fine-grained tannins, and finishing with great length and a real skip in its step. 2023 was the longest-ever harvest at Pedesclaux, lasting 17 days instead of the usual 11. The blend is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc, the ideal blend anticipated when the vineyard was restructured and replanted. It is aging in 65% new oak and the pH is 3.76.

A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, aging in 65% new oak, the 2022 Pedesclaux has a pH of 3.86 and a TPI of 70. The yield was 37 hl/ha and this is the first year that it has been certified organic. The color is deep garnet-purple and the nose needs a fair bit of swirling to coax out evocative notes of blackcurrant cordial, juicy black plums, and black raspberries, with touches of violets, licorice, and wood smoke. The full-bodied palate is concentrated, yet possesses impressive tension and a firm backbone of ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and layered. 

Spiced rosemary and crushed rose petals on the nose, this is enjoyable, has austerity but also finesse and lives up to En Primeur promise. Expect drinking window of five to 10 years from here. The 2020 Pedesclaux has a deep garnet-purple color. It flies out of the glass with bright, energetic scents of cassis and crushed blackberries, followed by wafts of kirsch, violets, and underbrush. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegantly styled and refreshing, with fine-grained tannins and a mineral-laced finish.

Liquorice and violets, well balanced, plenty of tannic grip, good appellation signature without being too difficult to approach. One to recommend, and a successful wine to mark 10 years since Jacky Lorenzetti arrived at Pédesclaux and began his transformation of the property. 68% new oak, harvest September 23 to October 5. First year of conversion to organics.

The 2018 Pedesclaux is deep garnet-purple in color. It gives up notes of cedar, sauteed herbs, and new leather, over a core of cassis and baked plums. Medium-bodied, the palate has just enough straightforward black fruits, with a chewy texture and a savory finish. 

Mørd rød farge. Dufter av røde bær, rosiner, stall ,lær og cedertre. God konsentrasjon med balanser og fin syre. Lang ettersmak. 

Expert

Precise and carefully extracted, showing the work that was underway at the time but it is still far from Pédesclaux today. The tannins have some of the fierce appellation quality if you sit with them. but this is a softly spoken version of Pauillac, no need to wait too long. The ripeness of the vintage comes through strongly, and it is juicy on the finish.

Ruby red colour, tobacco, redcurrant, grilled raspberry, touches of cassis bud and stalky tannins. This was the year that Jacky Lorenzetti bought the property, so still very much in its old school phase, and even in a vintage as impressive as 2009 it is already showing tertiary character. So much was being put into motion at the estate at this point, but I would still favour more recent vintages of Pédéslcaux.

The years before Pédésclaux had been taken under the wing of Jacky Lorenzetti, with the old label, but a vintage that was well received at the time, and seen as one of the best at the estate for years. It's a little subdued 17 years on, lacks depth to the brambled blackberry fruit although has juicy acidity and stretches out through the palate. Earthy, unfussy, one to drink up.
