Inside Bordeaux

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Barreyres is a little shy to begin, revealing subtle notes of stewed plums, Morello cherries, and fruitcake, plus touches of dried herbs and black olives. The medium-bodied palate is lively and refreshing, with plenty of savory flavors and soft, approachable tannins, finishing on a peppery note.

Earth and tomato leaf aromatics, soft but enjoyable, well balanced, autumnal berry fruits laced with white pepper. In the Castel family, the vineyard covers 110ha in a single stretch between the Gironde river and the D2 road in Arcins. First year with Petit Verdot in the blend.

Earthy, with autumnal brambly fruit here, fairly high acidity on the finish. Castel, Terra Vitis.

Sweet oak and smooth tannins mark out this Merlot-dominant wine that is located in the commune of Arcins, close to the borders of Margaux. Easy to drink, slightly rustic tannins but well balanced by grilled cedar. Owned by Pierre Castel since 1971.
