En kraftig og balansert rødvin med tydelige tanniner og en fyldig munnfølelse. Smaken preges av mørke bær som solbær, plomme og bjørnebær, kombinert med toner av eik, vanilje og sjokolade. Krydder som pepper og lakris gir dybde, mens et hint av mynte frisker opp avslutningen. En strukturert vin som passer perfekt til rødt kjøtt, vilt og modne oster – men den er også fantastisk å nyte alene for de som elsker en kraftig rødvin.

The 2021 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz was sourced from McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Barossa Valley, Wrattonbully, and Padthaway and the blend is 53% Cabernet Sauvignon with 47% Shiraz. It has a deep garnet-purple color and notes of crème de cassis, blackberry preserves, and chocolate-covered cherries tumble from the glass, leading to suggestions of cedar chest, graphite, and underbrush. The full-bodied palate delivers layers of bright, crunchy black fruit offset by velvety tannins and bold freshness, finishing with a lingering minty lift.

Opaque, deep purple. Clean aroma, medium intensity on the nose. Primary aroma characteristics. Smells of blackberry, blueberry, dark plum, black currant, cassis, cedar wood and sage. A youthful, super dense and concentrated aroma. Primary taste characteristics.

The wine is is dry and dense. Medium acidity. Finely grained tannins, smooth even at its youth. Medium(+) alcohol, somewhat integrated at this stage. Medium(+)-bodied with a medium flavour intensity. Very good balance, makes for a harmonious drinking experience. Although the complexity is lacking for now, you get all the balance! But at least for now, the wine seems to be in hibernation. Huge amounts of concentration here though. I heard that it was drinking well now, but it’s fruit is locked away and even after six hours in a carafe, this wine is not expressing it’s fruit profile well, though this will come around I’m sure. Long, smooth finish.

Varm, fruktig, god fylde, fin syre, lang og god avslutning

Krydrede, syltede plommer, solbær, bjørnebær, blyantkvess, kokos og luksuriøst treverk på en intens og engasjerende nese. Jeg er svak for amerikansk eik og får en «Australia-does-Rioja»-vibe av hele opplegget.

I munnen har vinen en dyp konsentrasjon av mørke bær harmonisert med eik. Integrasjonen har kommet langt, men denne tåler ennå noen år på langs for å utløse potensialet. Høy alkohol gjør dette til en veldig muskuløs affære som egentlig er fantastisk til rike kjøttretter. Utgang med meget god lengde. En vin for de som liker det  Big, Bold and Beautiful
