The 2023 Coufran is deep garnet-purple in color. It leaps with bold notes of black raspberries and juicy strawberries, plus suggestions of dried sage, crushed rocks, and mossy tree bark. The light to medium-bodied palate is lively and chewy, with herbs-laced red berry flavors and a refreshing finish.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Coufran needs a little coaxing to reveal notes of baked plums, juicy black cherries, and cassis, plus touches of dried herbs and pencil shavings. The medium-bodied palate has a pleasant chewiness, with plenty of expressive black fruit and savory flavors to back it up and just enough freshness to lift the finish.

Unfussy, light and underpowered, charming, and the leafiness found En Primeur has softened over ageing, but this remains a little diluted, and is for early to medium term drinking. 50hl/h yield, Eric Boissenot consultant.

Inside Bordeaux

The 2020 Coufran, 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet-purple in color. It slips easily out of the glass with up-front scents of juicy black plums, kirsch, and boysenberries, plus hints of cloves, nutmeg, and dark chocolate. The medium-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruits with a velvety texture and just enough freshness, finishing with a spicy lift.
