In bottle, this is dark ruby red in colour, and delivers expansion in mid palate, unusual in the vintage. Oak in evidence, given a touch of cocoa bean, liqourice, aniseed, along with black cherry and raspberry. One to look out for in the vintage. 90% new oak, Hubert de Boüard consultant. A single point upgrade, as with their main estate wine.

Inside Bordeaux

The 2021 Haut-Carles from de Carles is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It features punchy notes of juicy plums and black cherries, followed by hints of balsamic, cedar, and dusty soil. The medium-bodied palate is chewy and lively, with a good amount of blackberry preserve flavors, finishing spicy.

Deep garnet-purple colored. Skips out with cheery notes of kirsch and black raspberries followed by hints of lavender oil, cloves, and anise. Light to medium-bodied, the palate has a sturdy frame of lightly chewy tannins and plenty of freshness with a savory finish.

Inky colour, a smoky swirl of grilled damson and vanilla bean. Plenty of Fronsac character, juicy limestone finish, enjoyably different character from the main Château de Carles estate wine, this one a more gourmet take on the vintage, both work and are ones to look out for. 40% new oak, plus the rest in one year old barrels.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Haut-Carles wafts of cedar and Indian spices over a core of baked plums, blackberry preserves, and sauteed herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is generous and velvety with a long spicy finish.
