Black cherry, raspberry, enjoyable, not quite the same ripeness that I have found in Lynch Moussas over the past few years, but this is enjoyable. As it opens, tar and campfire smoke curl out of the glass. Late harvest helped the fruit get to a good level of ripness, but this is soft on the finish.

An estate that has been quietly improving its expression of Cabernet Sauvignon classicism over the past few years, and here you'll find sappy, bright redcurrant, blackberry and raspberry fruit, a little leafy but with good length and soft campfire smoke, and an unfussy expression of the appellation. 58% new oak for ageing.

The 3rd wine of Lynch Moussas, this starts off extremely tight, with some bitter aniseed notes and firm tannins. As it opens, a juicier blackberry character emerges, but this is early drinking, and a little earthy. Harvest September 12 through to October 5, consultant Axel Marchal. A wine that now contains some of the vines of Fleur Peyrabon, recently purchased by the Castéja family.

The 2022 Lynch-Moussas, 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot, is deep garnet-purple in color. It charges out with bold notions of blackcurrant jelly, baked black plums, and fruitcake, plus wafts of tobacco leaves, powdered cinnamon, and wild sage. The medium-bodied palate has bags of energy, with plenty of freshness and a backbone of grainy tannins providing support, finishing long and savory.

The 2020 Lynch-Moussas, 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot, is medium to deep garnet in color. It springs from the glass with ready-to-go notes of redcurrant jelly, black raspberries, and violets, leading to hints of pencil shavings, wild thyme, and cloves. The medium-bodied palate is drinking deliciously at this youthful stage, delivering bags of red and black fruits with baking spice accents and a plush texture, finishing on a perfumed note. This is very pretty!

The 2019 Lynch-Moussas is composed of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it leaps with vibrant cassis and black cherries notes, giving way to hints of cedar, clove oil, and menthol. The medium-bodied palate is muscular and grainy, with a lively backbone and minty lift on the finish.

Lynch-Moussas 2018 is deep garnet-purple in color. It bursts with notes of warm cassis, blueberry compote, and fresh mulberries, plus suggestions of pencil shavings and damp soil. Medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy, the palate has great intensity and a racy line of freshness, finishing long and lifted.

WSET 3

Sweet raspberry fruit, with tobacco, pencil lead and orange rind freshness. Smoky oak dominant, even a touch of tar, that takes away from the well expressed autumnal fruits. Enjoyable, less depth than in more recent vintages of this improving estate, owned by the Casteja family.

Dark fruits, raspberry leaf and savoury blueberry fruits, punches of redcurrant, clearly an extremely impressive vintage for the property. Ready to begin drinking now, with cloves, cinnamon, liquorice and tobacco leaf, this is unfussy and enjoyable. 50% new oak for ageing.

Halvflaske. Mørke bær i form av bjørnebær og solbær. Lær, grafitt, støv, tobakk, sedertre og jordlige toner. Underliggende fin friskhet i vinen som spenner opp drikkekurven og bærer et tungt og fyldig midtparti på en veldig uanstrengt måte. Frukt og eik godt integrert, og vinen har fått fin modning. Flott og matvennlig tanninstruktur - god lengde. Typeriktig Pauillac. 2009 Bordeaux er jo noe omdiskutert, men her har vi friskhet til å bære den veldig modne fruktprofilen. Fantastisk følge til en god Entrecôte!

WSET 2

Pale ruby red, light in structure, this is light raspberry, gentle tobacco and raspberry spice, ready to drink, unfussy. There is less Pauillac signature here than you will find in its clssified sibling Batailley, this is one to drink now.

Rødlilla på farge. Dufter av mørke bær, lær, cedertre, skogbunn og blyantkvess. Fin og konsistent syre, fortsatt oppleves vinen som levende og fruktig. Dekantert i ca en time. Runde og avslepne tanniner med middel lengde. God til entrecote med bernaise eller peppersaus.

Solbær, oliven, blyant, høy og stall, litt sopp, kanskje også litt røde bær muligens kirsebær eller plomme, anis, pepper, nellik 

Nydelig fruktighet, solbær, også noe rød frukt, bringebær/plomme, urter, treverk, frisk syre, bra konsentrasjon, middels fylde, runde modne og tørre tanniner, lang utgang 

En kokko god vin, masse fruktighet og nydelig syre etter 26 år. Drakk til ytrefilet og saltbakte poteter. Og hjemmelaget bearnaise (fikk det til, woho).

Bjørnebær, solbær, plommer, lær, tobakk, kamferkiste og matjord. Minner på dette stadiet om 1996, men virker samtidig noe mer viril og har litt mer sprut i frasparket. Friskheten bærer midtpartiet som både har frukt og en interessant tertiær profil på en god måte. Nedslipt tanninstruktur, og god lengde. Flott og intelligent Pauillac som neppe blir bedre enn den er nå.

Amateur

Raske notater. Godt utviklet profil med mørl frukt, solbærbusk, lær, tobakk, sopp og øvrige jordlige aromaer. Harmonisk, integrert og balansert der det fremdeles er friskhet og konsentrasjon i det som må være blandt 90-tallets desidert beste årganger i Pauillac. Nedslipt og finkornet tanninstruktur - meget godt lengde. En flaske i toppform - dette er både intellektuelt og deilig på en gang. 

Røyk, tobakk, lær. Fortsatt fin frukt, noe solbær. Kompleks, fin syre. Lang. Nydelig vin, perfekt å drikke nå, men ingen hast.
