Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Marjosse Rouge needs a little coaxing to reveal notes of cast-iron pan, crushed rocks, and dusty soil over a core of red plums, blackberry preserves, and mulberries, plus a hint of bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is tightly knit with fine-grained tannins and bold freshness supporting the nuanced black and red fruits, finishing long and minerally.

Pierre Lurton continues to make this an unfussy, charming wine to look out for. Expect vivid ruby fruit, slimmer and more savoury fruit than the last few years, but well balanced with finely-placed tannins and an easy approach. No need to wait after bottling. Grape blend given is as planted, not vintage.

Inside Bordeaux

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Marjosse Rouge springs from the glass with bold notes of juicy blackberries, fresh raspberries, and cinnamon stick leading to wafts of lavender and tilled soil. The medium-bodied palate delivers vivacious black and red berry flavors with a soft texture and refreshing line, finishing with a spicy kick. Nice!

Ruby plum colour, this has structure and gentle tannins, appealingly succulent raspberry and blackberry fruits, with waves of sage and cofee bean alongside. Good quality, should be good value, and is one to look out for. Pierre Lurton's home estate.

A little subdued aromatically, takes times to unwind out of the glass, starts off well. Textured crab apple and raspberry fruits, with gentle spice, but there is bitterness on the finish.

The 2019 Marjosse Rouge is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It rolls easily out of the glass with expressive notes of raspberry coulis, wild blueberries, and boysenberries, plus suggestions of clove oil, garrigue, and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is taut and muscular, delivering intense black fruit and savory layers with a firm backbone of fine-grained tannins, finishing long and refreshing. It needs time!

Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Marjosse Rouge sashays out with gregarious scents of crushed blackberries, juicy redcurrants, and black raspberries, plus wafts of pencil lead and fragrant soil. The full-bodied palate is completely coated with rich black fruits, lifted by red berry sparks and mineral nuances. The tannins are soft and the acidity seamless, delivering a wonderfully harmonious finish.
