Deep garnet-purple in color. Skips out with bright notes of black raspberries, red currant jelly, and dried roses, followed by hints of powdered cinnamon and fertile loam. The light to medium-bodied palate is elegant and soft-spoken with approachable tannins and well-knit freshness, finishing fragrant.

Medium intensity colour, a ton of grip, juicy blackberry fruits, along with wild strawberries and pomegranate, sage and fennel;, very easy to drink, but with plenty of personality, this is a 2nd wine to look out for. They do a great job at Phélan of maintaining estate character consistently, and here you get the damson and blackberry fruit of St Estephe, with a full mid palate. The tannins are a little angular through the finish from the fresh acidities but this is an enjoyable wine. Harvest September 29 to October 13. IPT 85. 55% new oak. An upscore, tasted twice.

En poppende duft dominert av en parfymert nese, samt veldig fruktdreven av røde og mørke bær. Lukt av våt kalk, og veldig lagdelt. 

En smak som jeg sjeldent har smakt fra både produsenten eller fra Saint Estephe før. Konsentrasjonen tar dominans fra start, men legger seg pent i bakhånd etterhvert, hvor frukten kommer frem. Sorte jordbær, mørke rips, og røde solbær.
Høy syre, veldig høy konsentrasjon, polerte tette tanniner. 

Det beste jeg har smakt fra produsenten.

Mørke solbær, skogsbær, lær, tobakk, vått treverk, og nærmest plommesyltetøy på nesen. 

Smak av røde kirsebær og modne skogsbær. Pene, syrlige rustikke toner, med fin syre, ok konsentrasjon med ok lengde. Tett tanninstruktur.

An exceptional St Estèphe in this vintage, and one to seek out, not fully ready to drink today, but on its way. This has a tight structure, with creamy and succulent tannins, waves of black fruits, still young but you could fully dive in with a bit of clever carafing. One to get hold of. 70ha vineyard, owned by Philippe Van de Vyvere, director Veronique Dausse, consultants Michel Rolland and Julien Viaud.

Mørke rips, rød jordbær, vanilje og noe mineralitet på duft.  

Smak av tette, integrerte røde og mørke bær. En latterlig fin balanse mellom rustikke toner, syre og høy konsentrasjon.

The 2014 Phelan Segur is medium to deep garnet in color. Floral notes of dried roses and lavender lead to a core of plum preserves and cassis plus touches of pencil shavings and aniseed with a medicinal waft in the background. The medium-bodied palate has a lively backbone and grainy tannins framing the tight-knit, nervy fruit, finishing with a mineral lift.

The 2013 Phelan Segur has a medium garnet color, with a touch of brick. It offers meagre notes of dried herbs, pencil lead, and tobacco leaf, with a core of dried cranberries and fig paste. The light to medium-bodied palate is a little thin and green, with chewy tannins and an herbs-laced finish.

En delikat duft av røde og mørke bær, inkludert solbær, bjørnebær, og kirsebær, samt noe krydder og kanel. 

En smak av rustikke rød- modne bær, som kirsebær og solbær, og noe tobakk og lakris. Et snev også av pepper og nellik. Fin syre, med ok konsentrasjon. 

90-91p.

Mørk rød nesten mot blod, tett kjerne med en svak antydning til bruning i kanten. Solbær, bjørnebær, solbærblader, ristet sort pepper, en meget delikat blomstrethet. Medium syre, fin balanse med litt bløt frukt og litt varme i halsen som kunne minne om litt alkoholsk (13% alko) uten at det nok er det. Lette fin tanniner som begynner å integreres men gir godt med tørring.  Litt kortere i avslutningen enn jeg skulle ønske

Blackberry, olive tapenade, sweet liquorice, tar, these years were definitely more highly charged for Phélan Ségur than today. 50% new oak. Harvest September 30 to October 12. Michel Rolland consultant.

Ripe blackberry fruits, with some powerful tannins and a ton of sandalwood and cedar oak. More exuberant than the sculpted wines that Phelan has been making in recent years, this is fully in the spirit of a ripe 2009, enjoyable and full of personality, a little overworked. 50% new oak for ageing, Michel Rolland consultant.
